Home Run Derby Odds: Breaking Down the 2023 Home Run Derby Bracket

It's time for the 2023 Home Run Derby.

Many players declined an invitation; others are injured and can't perform in the Home Run Derby. However, the field of eight is still very appealing.

Pete Alonso will be looking to add his third Home Run Derby Championship to his collection. Meanwhile, Julio Rodriguez hopes to put on a show for all of the Seattle Mariner faithful at T-Mobile Park.

We'll also watch Vladimir Guerrero Jr. perform in the Derby for the second time. Some exciting Derby contestants are making their debut in the Derby, including 5-foot-9, 180 lb Mookie Betts. Can he surprise everyone and win the Derby?

Here's a breakdown of each first-round matchup and a look at the entire field and their odds to win the Home Run Derby.

Home Run Derby Odds - First Round Matchups

Luis Robert Jr. vs. Adley Rutschman Home Run Derby Odds

Player

Odds

Luis Robert Jr.

-220

Adley Rutschman

+180

Luis Robert has had an incredible turnaround season for the White Sox this year. When the Home Run Derby was announced, Robert had the most home runs compared to any other contestant. Therefore, he's got an easy draw against Adley Rutschman.

Rutschman is a great young talent for the Orioles. But he's a switch-hitting catcher. There's never been a switch-hitter or a catcher that has won the Home Run Derby.

Randy Arozarena vs. Adolis Garcia Home Run Derby Odds

Adolis Garcia

-145

Randy Arozarena

+120

Adolis Garcia and Randy Arozarena are best friends. So this is going to be a hilarious matchup. Arozarena won his High-A Home Run Derby before being called up to the Majors. He's probably got a quicker swing and would fatigue slightly less than Garcia. I'd take the upset with Arozarena here.

Pete Alonso vs. Julio Rodriguez Home Run Derby Odds

Player

Odds

Pete Alonso

-170

Julio Rodriguez

+140

We've got a rivalry brewing.

Julio Rodriguez knocked off Pete Alonso in the semifinals last year. Now they will compete against one another in the first round of the tourney this year.

Rodriguez is going to be comfortable in his home ballpark. But Pete Alonso has never lost in the first round of the Home Run Derby. Things will get interesting, but oddsmakers still believe Alonso will win this round.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. vs. Mookie Betts Home Run Derby Odds

Player

Odds

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

-215

Mookie Betts

+175

Vladdy has a lot going for him in this round. He's got experience from 2019 in the Home Run Derby. He's also facing Mookie Betts, who told ESPN that he doesn't think he'll win.

Betts doesn't have the power that the rest of the group has. But he's hit 26 home runs in the first half of the MLB season. The ball doesn't have to go 450 feet. He just needs a couple to go a bit farther than his usual 390 feet homers to earn extra time.

This will be an exciting matchup, but Vladdy likely blows Mookie away.

Pete Alonso, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Julio Rodriguez are the top three favorites for the Home Run Derby.

The problem here is that all three of those sluggers are on the same side of the bracket. So if you want to have a chance at landing a player in the finals, you should bet on the player you think can win the other side of the bracket.

Luis Robert seems like the likeliest candidate. But maybe Randy Arozarena will show out. You'd be able to get him for +1000 and can even hedge out and guarantee profit if that happened.
