NBA MVP Race: Luka Doncic Making a Late Push For The MVP Heading Into Week 24

We're just a few weeks away from the end of the regular season.

Last week, Nikola Jokic went to -750 odds to win the MVP. A week later, he's still sitting at -700 odds to win the Award.

However, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went from +650 to +2500 due to his inactivity. Below are all the changes from Week 23 to Week 24 in the MVP race.

At this point, it's a three-man race.

NBA MVP Rankings

1. Nikola Jokic (-700) (Bet $700 to collect $800)

At this point, Nikola Jokic essentially has the MVP locked up. At -700 odds, he's still got an 87.50% chance of winning the Award.

Jokic has scored 26.1 points per game with 12.3 rebounds and nine assists. He's also averaged nearly 58% from the field.

In March, he scored 27.6 points per game, shot at about the same rate, and added about the same amount of rebounds. His consistency in every game has kept him to this point.

Just look at Jokic's last game. He added 26 points, 18 rebounds, and 16 assists in 35 minutes while shooting above 61% from the field. He's undoubtedly the best player in the NBA right now.

2. Luka Doncic (+500) (Bet $100 to collect $600)

The Mavericks haven't lost a game since March 5 with Luka Doncic on the floor.

Doncic has averaged 34 points per game. He's also added 9.1 rebounds and 9.8 assists but has shot 48.9% from the field.

With Doncic's play as of late, he made the jump from +1600 to +500 in just one week. But it might just be a little too late to get by Jokic.

Doncic hasn't won an MVP since coming into the league five years ago. Sometimes, voters get bored of the same winners and elect new guys. Doncic still has a chance; it's just unlikely. The Mavericks went on hot and cold streaks too often.

However, if the Mavericks finish out the regular season this hot, voters could forget about the times when the Mavericks struggled under Doncic's leadership.

3. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+2500) (Bet $100 to collect $2600)

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a fun run at the NBA MVP. However, with his quad injury and lack of scoring in the month of March, he's fallen down to +2500 from +650 last week.

In March, Shai scored 20 or fewer points in four games. In February, he consistently scored 30 points a game.

That said, Gilgeous-Alexander is still having an admirable season. He is playing alongside many young players and leading this team to a top seed in the Western Conference.

An MVP is undoubtedly in his future.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (+10000) & Jayson Tatum (+10000)

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jayson Tatum have ultimately dropped out of the MVP race heading into Week 24.

After two consecutive losses to the Atlanta Hawks, Jayson Tatum dropped from +7500 to +10000.

Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo also went from +7500 to +10000 after a couple of losses to the Lakers and Pelicans.

Giannis has been a force on the glass recently. He also scored 35+ points in two consecutive games. But his inconsistency to begin the year was enough to push him out of contention heading into Week 24.
