College Basketball Power Rankings: Ranking the Top 10 Men's College Basketball Teams

Another week of college basketball is in the books and there have been some teams living up to the hype and others falling short. Kansas State upset No. 4 Kansas in overtime, Clemson upset No. 3 UNC, and No. 1 UConn took care of business against Butler.

So, where do the top 10 teams in the country fall? Before you make any college basketball picks for the week ahead, handicapper Matt McCuen is here to break down his college basketball power rankings.

COLLEGE Basketball POWER RANKINGS

1. UConn (22-2)

Dan Hurley's squad remains the best team in college basketball. The defending champs are the current betting favorite to repeat (+650). The Huskies have not lost a game since December 20th at Seton Hall. Cam Spencer is in the conversation to win Big East player of the year, averaging 15.3 points per game. Point guard Tristan Newton has been outstanding, scoring 15.2 points per game while leading the team with 6.6 rebounds and 58 assists. Connecticut will host fourth-ranked Marquette on Saturday afternoon.

2. Purdue (22-2)

Zach Edey leads this Boilermakers team. Edey is the favorite to win his second consecutive Player of the Year award, averaging 23.2 points and 11.7 rebounds. Purdue is 11-2 in the Big Ten and is a perfect 12-0 at home. Purdue will host Minnesota on Thursday night before going on the road at Ohio State on Saturday.

3. North Carolina (19-5)

The Heels have one of the best guards in college basketball, RJ Davis. Davis leads the squad with 21.5 points per game. This is an experienced Carolina team that has an offense good enough to beat anyone in college basketball. UNC's 11-2 conference record is the best in the ACC. The Heels will face Syracuse and Virginia Tech this weekend.

4. Houston (21-3)

Kelvin Sampson once again has one of the best defensive units in college basketball. The Cougars defense has allowed 54.7 points per game. Houston’s 8-3 conference record has them atop of the Big 12. Veteran guard LJ Cryer leads the squad with 14.8 points per game. Houston will host Texas and Iowa State this week.

5. Arizona (19-5)

The Wildcats have one of the best offenses in college basketball (90.1 PPG). Arizona sits atop the Pac 12 with a 10-3 record. North Carolina transfer Caleb Love has been dominant this season, averaging 18.9 points per game. Arizona will host Arizona State and Washington State this week.

6. Kansas (19-5)

Bill Self has a championship contender once again. This Kansas team is experienced, as four of their five starters are seniors. Kevin McCullar Jr. has been great, leading the team with 19.5 points per game. Kansas will play on the road against Texas Tech and Oklahoma this week.

7. Marquette (18-5)

Tyler Kolek is one of the best players in college basketball. The point guard has averaged 15.6 points and 7.5 assists. The Golden Eagles have not lost since January 10th against Butler. Marquette will go on the road against Butler and UConn this weekend.

8. Tennesse (17-6)

Senior Dalton Knecht has been one of the best players in college basketball this season, leading the team with 20.3 points per game. This is a veteran Volunteers team that has a strong defensive unit. The Vols will face Arkansas and Vanderbilt this week.

9. Iowa State (18-5)

The Cyclones have proved to be a top ten in college basketball this year. Sophomore Tamin Lipsey has been great with 13.2 points, 5.0 assists, and 5.6 assists. Iowa State is 7-3 in the conference, which is second to only Houston. The Cyclones will face Cincinnati and Texas Tech.

10. Auburn (19-5)

Bruce Pearl has his team playing well as we approach the month of March. Auburn is a physical team that is filled with athletes. Johni Broome is the star of the team averaging 16.0 points and 8.6 rebounds. The Tigers will host South Carolina and Kentucky this weekend.
