The NCAA Tournament's Hottest Teams

1. UC San Diego Tritons

The UC San Diego Tritons have won 15 consecutive games. They last lost to UC Riverside on January 18.

It's now been two months, and UC San Diego doesn't know what it feels like to lose. As a matter of fact, 13 of those 15 wins were won by double-digits in the Big West.

The Tritons have ultimately dominated in the turnover department. They've limited turnovers to 13.4% on offense and have added 23.2% of turnovers on defense. That's why they've been able to win by a large margin most of the season.

That said, UC San Diego has also shot 36.5% from deep and 56.1% from inside the arc. They're an excellent offense, they have still shot nearly 75% from the foul line.

Meanwhile, the defense is disciplined. It doesn't foul too much and has held teams to 28.4% of offensive rebounds. UC San Diego is red hot and dangerous as a 12-seed.

2. High Point Panthers

The High Point Panthers are a 13-seed, facing the 4-seeded Purdue Boilermakers. Purdue made it to the NCAA Tournament's Championship game last year, but it lost to Fairleigh Dickinson as a No. 1 seed the year before that.

In comparison, High Point is way better than FDU. The Panthers have won 14 consecutive games and haven't lost since January 16. They've got one of the best offenses in the country, too. High Point has nailed 36.6% from downtown and 57.4% from inside the arc. They've also added 34% of offensive rebounds, get to the foul line frequently, and limited turnovers at a solid rate.

The defense likely won't perform well against many teams in the NCAA Tournament. However, to beat Purdue, High Point will need to stay on point offensively throughout the game. I guess you never know!

3. Houston Cougars

The Houston Cougars have been on the most impressive run. They've won 13 straight games but have done it in the Big 12. They were destroyed in a Power-4 conference.

Ultimately, Houston has won every game but one since December. Houston lost by one point to Texas Tech in overtime in that one loss.

The Cougars play lockdown defense but also have a really good offense. Houston doesn't take many threes but has nailed 39.4% from downtown. They're disciplined and know when and where to take their shots, which is why many teams aren't able to get transition buckets on Houston.

Other Teams On Long Winning Streaks:

  • Duke Blue Devils (11)
  • McNeese State Cowboys (11)
  • Colorado State Rams (10)
  • Robert Morris Colonials (10)
