Auburn NCAA Tournament Odds: Can Hokies String Together Miracle Run in ACC Tournament?

Auburn enters the 2026 SEC Tournament in one of the most precarious positions of any bubble team in the country. The Tigers sit at 16-15 overall and 7-11 in SEC play, a résumé that would normally leave a team far outside the NCAA Tournament picture. The only reason Auburn remains in the conversation at all is its No. 1 strength of schedule in the country, which includes nonconference matchups against elite programs like Houston, Michigan, and Arizona.

Even with that brutal schedule, Auburn’s late-season collapse has pushed the Tigers to the edge of the field. The Tigers have lost seven of their last nine games and three of their last four, including damaging defeats to Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss. With most bracket projections now listing Auburn among the last teams out or just barely inside the field, the SEC Tournament in Nashville may be their final chance to prove they belong in March Madness.

Auburn NCAA Tournament Odds Breakdown

Auburn Resume Analysis

Auburn’s case for the NCAA Tournament begins and almost entirely ends with the strength of its schedule.

The Tigers scheduled aggressively in the nonconference portion of the season, facing some of the best teams in the country including Houston, Michigan, and Arizona. While Auburn lost those games, simply playing them boosted their résumé metrics and kept them relevant in the bubble conversation.

There are a few legitimate wins on the résumé as well, including victories over NC State and St. John’s, both quality opponents that helped Auburn remain on the selection committee’s radar. However, the rest of the profile is thin.

Auburn's Poor SEC Conference Record

The biggest issue for Auburn has been its performance inside the SEC.

Despite facing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, the Tigers still finished just 7-11 in conference play, and several of those losses came against teams outside the NCAA Tournament picture. Losses to Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss late in the season were particularly damaging.

The Tigers also enter the SEC Tournament in poor form, losing three of their last four games, which further weakened their standing on the bubble. Instead of finishing strong, Auburn has slid backward at the worst possible time.

Auburn SEC Tournament Outlook

Auburn’s postseason hopes now hinge on a decent run in the SEC Tournament.

The Tigers will open play against Mississippi State, a team they are currently -7.5 favorites against. Winning that game is the absolute minimum requirement to remain in the NCAA Tournament discussion.

If Auburn advances, the challenge escalates dramatically with a matchup against Tennessee in the next round. Tennessee’s defense and physicality would present a difficult test for a Tigers team that has struggled with consistency, and it would depend if Nate Ament suits up for the Vols.

Auburn Path to March Madness

Realistically, Auburn likely needs at least two wins in the SEC Tournament to feel comfortable about its NCAA Tournament chances.

One win over Mississippi State would keep the Tigers alive, but it probably wouldn’t be enough to overcome their late-season struggles. A second win over a strong opponent like Tennessee would dramatically improve Auburn’s résumé and provide the kind of late-season statement the selection committee values.

Without that kind of run in Nashville, Auburn’s fate may ultimately be decided by other bubble teams around the country. With their résumé hanging by a thread, the Tigers will likely need both wins and a little help elsewhere to hear their name called on Selection Sunday.
