4 Minute ReadIndiana NCAA Tournament Odds: Can Hoosiers Advance to March Madness with Wins Over Northwestern, Purdue in Chicago This Week?
Indiana enters the Big Ten Tournament squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble, and the Hoosiers’ postseason fate may come down to their performance in Chicago this week. Mike Woodson’s team sits at 18-13 overall and 9-11 in Big Ten play, a résumé that has them hovering right on the cut line. Most bracket projections currently list Indiana as one of the last teams in the field, often projected as a No. 11 seed in the First Four in Dayton.
The Hoosiers open the Big Ten Tournament Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. ET against Northwestern, where they are currently -4.5 favorites. A win would keep Indiana firmly in the NCAA Tournament conversation, but a loss would almost certainly push them to the wrong side of the bubble. With Indiana currently around +200 odds to make the tournament, the margin for error is extremely small.

Indiana NCAA Tournament Odds Breakdown
Indiana Resume Analysis
Indiana’s résumé sits in a familiar bubble range across most major metrics.
The Hoosiers own a NET ranking of 37, a strength of schedule ranked 42nd, and a strength of record of 46, numbers that place them right in the middle of the at-large conversation. They also have a few quality wins, highlighted by a victory over Purdue, which remains their best result of the season.
However, Indiana’s profile also carries several weaknesses. The Hoosiers finished just 3-11 in Quad 1 games and struggled on the road with a 3-8 record away from home. Their worst loss of the season came against Minnesota (NET 74), a result that still lingers as a blemish on their résumé.
Poor SEC Conference Record
Indiana might not even be in this precarious position if not for a disastrous finish to the regular season.
The Hoosiers have lost five of their last six games, which dropped them from relatively comfortable tournament positioning to one of the final teams fighting for a bid. Instead of building momentum heading into March, Indiana has been sliding at the worst possible time.
Ironically, the Hoosiers remain in the conversation largely because other bubble teams across the country have struggled as well. That collective mediocrity has kept Indiana afloat despite its own late-season issues.
Indiana First Test vs. Northwestern
Indiana’s immediate focus is Wednesday night’s matchup against Northwestern, a team that has had the Hoosiers’ number recently.
The Wildcats have won six straight games against Indiana, the longest winning streak in the series for Northwestern, and have taken eight of the last ten matchups overall. That includes a four-point win over Indiana earlier this season, which adds another layer of pressure to this rematch.
If the Hoosiers can finally snap that streak and secure a win, they would likely face Purdue on Thursday, creating one of the most intriguing potential matchups of the entire tournament.
Indiana Big Ten Tournament Outlook
Even if Indiana beats Northwestern, the path forward remains extremely challenging.
A likely second-round matchup against Purdue would pit the Hoosiers against one of their biggest rivals. Indiana split the season series with the Boilermakers earlier this year, winning one meeting in January before suffering a 30-point loss in the rematch a few weeks ago.
Because of that uneven series and Indiana’s current form, it’s difficult to know which version of the Hoosiers might show up if the rivals meet again.
Indiana Path to March Madness
Indiana’s NCAA Tournament chances likely depend on winning at least one game in the Big Ten Tournament, though two wins would remove most of the uncertainty.
A victory over Northwestern would likely keep the Hoosiers inside the projected field, especially if other bubble teams continue to stumble. But advancing further with a win over Purdue would significantly strengthen Indiana’s résumé and likely secure their spot in March Madness.
For now, the Hoosiers remain one of the most volatile teams on the bubble. With their tournament hopes hanging in the balance, Wednesday night’s game against Northwestern is be the most important game of Indiana’s season.
