The USA Women’s basketball team may just be the biggest dynasty in Olympic team sport history, and their odds to win Gold in Tokyo at the 2021 Olympics reflect just that. For reference, their opening game is next week against Nigeria, where they are -31 point favorites against the Nigerians.
Women’s basketball has been in the Olympics since 1976, 11 Olympic Games prior to this year. The USA Women’s team withdrew from the 1980 games in China, so they’ve competed in 10 different Olympics. In that time, they’ve won eight gold medals.
The only times the United States Women’s Baksetball team didn’t win a gold medal was 1976, the inaugural games which included them, and 1992.
