UFC 273 Odds: Alexander Volkanovski Given an 87.5% Chance of Victory

UFC 273 is headlined by one of the most uneven title fights that the UFC has seen in a long time, according to oddsmakers. Calling Alexander Volkanovski the overwhelming favorite doesn’t do it justice.

Alexander Volkanovski vs Chan Sung Jung Odds

Just three weeks ago, Volkanovski was given -450 odds to retain his title. Those odds have now increased to -700, or an implied 87.5% chance to win the fight. Those are the best odds anyone has had in a men’s title fight since UFC 235 when Jon Jones was given -750 odds against Anthony Smith. Meanwhile, Chan Sung Jung is given +550 odds, or an implied 15.4% chance to pull off the upset.

Bettors certainly believe in Vokanovski, but not to that extent. Over the last 30 days, 63.3% of bets have been placed on Volakovski to win the fight. That means The Korean Zombie has seen 36.7% of bets.

Since UFC 235, only three other men’s title fights have seen the favorite given at least -500 odds. Jones v. Smith in 235, Jones v. Santos at UFC 239, and Nurmagomedov v. Poirier at UFC 242. The favorite won all three fights, though the two Jones fights were close. Winning by unanimous decision at 235 and split decision at 239. So, while the odds may say Volkanovski is a special kind of favorite in this fight, bettors know that doesn’t mean this won’t be a close fight.
