A great night of fights is on tap for Saturday night live from Hollywood, FL, as Showtime will play host to three terrific matchups, including two title fights. Getting the action started before the Omar Figueroa Jr. vs. Sergey Lipinets main event, a pair of junior lightweights will go at it as Roger Gutierrez looks to defend his belt against Hector Garcia.
Let’s take a closer look at both fighters, as well as where the odds are headed as this fight draws closer.
Roger Gutierrez vs. Hector Luis Garcia Breakdown
Roger Gutierrez (26-3-1, 20 KOs)
Turing professional in 2013, Gutierrez has gone on a run of epic proportions, racking up 26 wins in the time since including 20 knockouts. As of this Saturday, he has not lost since a September 2018 fight against Oscar Duarte, rattling off seven wins in the time since including four of which ended via KO/TKO inside of five rounds.
Picking up the WBA (Regular) super featherweight title in a January 2021 bout vs. Rene Alvarado, Gutierrez has defended it once, also against Alvarado, and will look to do the same Saturday night at the Seminole Hard Rock. It is worth noting that despite being the same height, Gutierrez will step into the ring on Saturday with a 1.5” reach advantage over his opponent.
Hector Luis Garcia (15-0-3, 10 KOs)
Despite being three years’ opponent’s senior at 30 years of age, Garcia will step into the ring on Saturday with 15 fewer fights and an overall much fresher fighter. Turning pro in 2016, Garcia has rattled off 15 wins and three no contests, having yet to lose as a professional.
In 2018, Garcia won the vacant WBA Fedaletin featherweight title vs. Robin Zamora, defending it once in 2019. Having fought just three times outside of his home in the Dominican Republic, Garcia will be put to the test on Saturday in the toughest bout of his career.
One of the biggest assets at his disposal, Garcia is a southpaw fighter that will give Gutierrez some difficult looks. With 66% of his wins coming via KO/TKO, Garcia has displayed the power needed to become a champion and will be a real threat to the current WBA title holder Saturday.
