It wasn’t supposed to be this way in the light heavyweight division. 

Jiri Prochazka had been all set to rematch Glover Teixeira for the light heavyweight belt in December, following a Fight of the Year candidate when he beat him in June. However, due to a brutal shoulder injury, that fight was scrapped, with Prochazka vacating the title.

It was a long road to the top, as then 42-year-old Teixeira had ascended the ranks to claim the light heavyweight title from Blachowicz. In the run-up, Teixeira has won five straight, taking out the likes of Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, and Ion Cutelaba, all inside of the distance.

Jamahal Hill (11-1-0)

Joining the UFC in January 2020 via DWCS, Hill has amassed a record of 5-1-1 with the company, including three straight coming into this one, all by KO/TKO. In fact, not since his debut fight with the promotion has Hill not finished an opponent, with almost all coming inside three rounds. 

In this matchup, Hill has the edge in knockdown average per 15 minutes (3x), as well as significant strikes, landed per minute (2x). One area Hill might be in trouble is on the ground, as he has virtually no experience at this level when it comes to grappling in high-level fights.
