Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa Odds, Date, How to Watch, and Predictions for UFC 298

The countdown to UFC 298 is almost over, as we are now just hours away from the prelims kicking off life from Anaheim, CA. Even beginning in the early prelims, there are fights on Saturday from top to bottom that should provide for an excellent evening of fights.

While the featherweight title fight at the top between Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria, rightfully so, is getting all the action, there is another clash I have circled. In the co-main event of UFC 298, a pair of veteran middleweights Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa will go at it, both of whom have title aspirations in 2024.

Let’s take a closer look at both fighters, where the odds have landed, and who I like to come out of this one with their hand raised.

Whittaker vs. Costa Date, Time, and Where to Watch

  • Date: Saturday, February 17, 2024
  • Time: 10:00 p.m. ET
  • Where: Honda Center, Anaheim, CA
  • Where to Watch: PPV

Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa Odds

With the odds now almost fully matured, we’ve seen this one bounce up and down from the start. To open, Whittaker was a -300 favorite, getting as low as -220 before now beginning to creep back up to the -250 range. Costa’s odds are correlated, of course, starting as high as +250 before reaching a bottom of +170.

Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa UFC 298 Prediction

Robert Whittaker (25-7-0)

Joining the UFC roster more than a decade ago, Whittaker has fought the best of the best at middleweight in the time since. From 2014 to 2019, Whittaker didn’t lose a fight on his way to becoming the division’s champ. Unfortunately for him, and the rest of the division, a guy named Israel Adesanya came along to take Whittaker’s belt and beat him again three years later.

Paulo Costa (14-2-0)

Costa’s biggest problem since joining the UFC has been managing to stay healthy and active, as he’s now fought just three times in three years. Losing two of those fights, the once promising contender desperately needs a win here to stay relevant in title-shot conversations.

Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa Pick

While Costa has shown some promise in the past, his durability remains an issue and is something that can’t be questioned against a killer in Whittaker. The Australian's only three losses since 2014 have come against eventual champions Adesanya and Du Plessis, and I think this will clearly be a step too high for Costa.
