The wait is almost over for one of the most star-studded UFC PVV cards of the year, as UFC 299 is now just hours away. While there are great fights all night long, the main event of the evening is a rematch for the bantamweight title as Sean O’Malley looks to get his redemption against Marlon “Chito” Vera. 

Just before the main event, however, we get a co-main event that serious fight fans are highly anticipating. Fan favorite Dustin Poirier takes on young up-and-comer Benoit Saint Denis who will look to continue his march up the lightweight rankings.

Oddsmakers opened this one up with Saint Denis as a -150 favorite, and Poirier listed around +130. Since then, money has poured in on the Frenchman, as he now sits as high as -218 and growing, with “Diamond” sitting around +180 as of Friday.

In what will be his 31st walk into the octagon, the legend that is Dustin Poirier might have his days numbered. Having lost two of his past three fights, Poirier now faces a guy in Saint Denis who many have pegged as the future of the division. With a fighter resume that is unmatched at lightweight, however, Poirier has a massive edge in experience and will need to outsmart his opponent in this one who comes in seven years his junior. 

Benoit Saint Denis (13-1-0)

With just one loss on his resume, a 2021 decision defeat against Elizeu Zaleski at UFC 267, Saint-Denis comes into this fight on a five-win streak, all of which have come inside the distance. The last time we saw him in the octagon was a vicious first-round KO of Matt Frevola in November, a fight that put the rest of the lightweight division on notice. 

Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint Denis Pick

Though most people, including those in the betting markets, have concluded that Denis is a surefire lock in this one, I am not so sure. I think Poirier can lean on his experience to take this one into the later rounds and edge out a decision win.
