Since a loss to Vera that year at the UFC Apex, his stock has steadily risen, as comes into this fight on a five-fight win streak. Four of those wins have come inside the distance, most recently a TKO of then-champ Aljamain Sterling in August to claim the bantamweight strap.

Marlon Vera (23-8-1)

Having never been finished inside the distance in his 32 professional MMA fights, “Chito” Vera is as tough as they come. Like O’Malley, Vera has a cult following and will likely even have the crowd on his side Saturday night in Miami. Having last beat Pedro Munhoz on that same card as O’Malley back in August, Vera has the country of Ecuador on his back for this one..

While a win is a win, and Chito can’t control O’Malley getting hurt in their first clash, the fact of the matter is Suga Sean has vastly improved since then. Though he doesn’t likely get it done inside the distance, I do think O’Malley can last all five rounds here and eek out a decision win.
