For the second straight year and third time in the UFC’s history, the promotion returns to Perth, Australia, this time for one of the best cards of the year. While there are great fights on this card from top to bottom, the card is headlined by a middleweight title fight between two-time former champion Israel Adesanya and current champ Dricus du Plessis.

There is no shortage of bad blood in this one, which should make for one of the most electric main events of the year. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at this five-round middleweight championship class for the undisputed middleweight champ and “King of Africa” title.

Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya UFC 305 Prediction

Dricus du Plessis (21-2-0)

With his January win over Sean Strickland, a decision that was razor close, Du Plessis earned his middleweight title and extended his UFC record to 7-0, and 21-2 overall. Despite the controversial decision, Du Plessis did enough to take the title from Strickland, and now boasts wins over some of the divisions best in Strickland, Brad Tavares, Derek Brunson, and Robert Whittaker. At just 30 years old, Du Plessis has a chance to go on a historic run in the middleweight division, but this fight is a major roadblock to accomplishing that (and other future) feats.

Israel Adesanya (24-3-0)

We last saw Adesanya in the octagon also against Sean Strickland, losing inside the distance in nearby Sydney in a fight he looked lost in from the start. The 35-year-old allegedly considered retirement following the Strickland loss, as the defeat compiled with his trilogy against Alex Pereira certainly took something out of the former two-time champion. It’s not just a third middleweight title on the line here for Adesanya, as a loss here would severely hurt his legacy by losing to at least four still-active middleweights.

Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya Pick

For my money, Adesanya has already secured his spot as one of the best middleweights the UFC has ever seen. With that said, I do think his run is over, as Du Plessis confirms his place in the top 10 pound-for-pound spot with a statement win here.
