2023 Fantasy Football Dynasty Trade Value Chart: Pre-Free Agency Edition

Not happy with your dynasty fantasy team's future potential after the 2022 season? Here is Ryan Kirksey's guide to fantasy player value moving forward, factoring in age, performance, health, team context, and roster construction.

2023 Fantasy Football Dynasty Trade Value Chart: Pre-Free Agency Edition

The NFL, especially dynasty fantasy football, never takes a true offseason. With trades, rookie drafts, and league-free agency to consider, there is much work done between January and August in dynasty leagues. Each month, this column will provide a Trade Value Chart for quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends, assuming a half-point per reception fantasy league.

The trade value chart will rate roughly 24 quarterbacks, 40 running backs, 40 wide receivers, and 18 tight ends throughout the offseason as we look toward 2023. Several factors go into these rankings:

  • Age - football has a relatively short shelf life for productive players. How many more years can they contribute?
  • Performance - how did this player produce in the past season, and what is their expected performance moving forward?
  • Team context - how is the team performing as an offensive unit, and what is the outlook for 2023 and beyond?
  • Injury - does the player have an injury history, or is there a recent injury that would significantly impact their future performance (i.e., how does Tony Pollard's broken tibia in the Division playoff game affect his future)?
  • Roster construction - is the player likely to be replaced or put in a time-share this offseason? How does the team view this player moving forward?

A trade value chart can be used to determine the relative value of a hypothetical fantasy football trade. So, if Justin Jefferson has a value of 36, you would look for a similar return on a trade (Austin Ekeler at 27 and Christian Kirk at 10, for example).

Is it an exact science? Certainly not. It is based on past and future expectations and my preferences for each player.
