Heisman Watch: Bryce Young's Heisman Odds, Season Highlights and Stats
Heisman Watch: Bryce Young’s Heisman Odds, Season Highlights and Stats
If you’ve been paying attention to our Heisman watch series each week, you know that Bryce Young has essentially run away with the Heisman this season. This past Monday, the Heisman finalists were officially announced by the Heisman Trust and to absolutely no one’s surprise, The Alabama QB made the list.
Heisman Finalists
- Bryce Young – Alabama QB
- Kenny Pickett – Pittsburgh QB
- CJ Stroud – Ohio State QB
- Aidan Hutchinson – Michigan DE
Now, most years as the Heisman finalists head to New York, we don’t really know what to expect. But, this year’s Heisman watch starts and ends with Young. Not only has he had some of his best games of the season down the stretch, but his competition has faded drastically.
So, rather than taking a look at the top five, or in this case four, on our Heisman watch list like we have in the past weeks, we’re going to break down Bryce Young’s Heisman odds, resume, stats and signature Heisman moment.
Don’t worry, our weekly Heisman watch feature will be back on Friday, just in time for this weekend’s ceremony. But, we thought each of the Heisman finalists could use some individual attention.
Heisman Watch – Bryce Young’s Heisman Resume
Best Individual Performance: 11/20 vs. Arkansas (31-40, 559 Yards, 5 TD, 0 INT)
Bryce Young’s best performance of the year for this Heisman watch feature comes to us in Alabama’s hard-fought 42-35 win over Arkansas. Prior to this game, Alabama struggled with a bad LSU team and then blew out an even worse New Mexico State squad.
People didn’t know how good Alabama really was and Tide fans were starting to feat UGA. But, Young delivered a massive showing at home and promptly calmed the nerves of all in attendance.
Heisman Moment: Alabama’s SEC Championship Win over Georgia (26-44, 421 Yards, 3 TD, 0 INT)
Okay, technically Young’s Heisman moment isn’t a moment, it’s a complete game. It also qualifies as his best performance of the year, but what fun would it be if I made them the same for this Heisman watch player profile?
When you compare the two games, Young’s stats against Arkansas are much better than his stats against Georgia, but that’s missing some very important context.
Coming into this past weekend’s SEC Championship Game, Georgia wasn’t just the best defense in the country, some were wondering if they were one of the best defenses ever. They had given up seven points per game and had allowed a high of 17 points in a game this season. Alabama responded to that by putting up a whopping 41 points as Bryce Young carved up the Dawgs and won an SEC crown.
