Heisman Trophy Presentation

Heisman Watch: Ranking the Top 5 Heisman Odds Candidates Heading into Week 10

Our Heisman Watch list looks a little different this week. After months of CJ Stroud dominating Heisman odds, he's finally been surpassed as the Heisman favorite. Let's take a look at the Heisman Watch list to see who has pulled ahead.

Heisman Watch: Ranking the Top 5 Heisman Odds Candidates Heading into Week 10

For months we've had the same player atop our Heisman Watch series. That's because, for months, CJ Stroud had been the best player in the country. But, according to the latest Heisman odds, it's no longer Stroud's award to lose.

Making college football news this week is that Stroud is no longer the favorite to win the award. Instead, it's Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker who leads the way.

You'll be making tons of college football picks this weekend with so many top-tier games on tap, but make sure you pay attention to our Heisman Watch list and the latest Heisman odds as there is always money to be made on the week-to-week odds movement in the market.

Heisman Watch: Top 5 Heisman Odds

1. Hendon Hooker- Tennessee QB (+110) (Bet $100 to collect $210)

Hendon Hooker is officially your Heisman favorite according to the latest Heisman odds. Let that sink in for a little bit. Last week, he was gaining serious ground on CJ Stroud as his odds sat at +200, and Stroud's sat around +100. This week, the two have flipped. Last week, Hendon Hooker did what he always does to opposing defenses, he tore them apart. Hooker finished with 245 yards through the air and three TDs while his team took down the No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats, 44-6. That's all great, but this week is where we truly see Hendon Hooker get tested. This week, Tennessee travels to No. 3 Georgia to take on the No.1 defense in the nation. The Bulldogs are also undefeated and have looked like they may be headed toward a repeat as national champions. If Hooker can go into Athens and lead the Vols to a win while putting up big numbers, we very well may already know who our Heisman winner is. If not, the field opens up again.

2. CJ Stroud - Ohio State QB (+200) (Bet $100 to collect $300)

If you just looked at the box score from last week's win over Penn State for Ohio State, you'd probably be left wondering why CJ Stroud's Heisman odds drifted and he lost his spot as the favorite. But, if you watched you know he struggled about as much as you can while throwing for 300+ yards. Stroud looked lost at times while trying to run the offense in high-pressure situations. He also only threw for one score, and while that is nitpicking, you have to take a look at what Hendon Hooker is doing against the SEC and compare what Stroud is doing against a so-so Big Ten. Stroud wasn't even the best offensive player on his own team during the game as that honor went to Marvin Harrison Jr. And, as I mentioned earlier, this thing is pretty much out of Stroud's hands now. If Hooker wins this weekend you can pretty much hand him the Heisman because nothing Stroud can do, including beating Michigan at home, can compare to taking down the Bulldogs in Athens.

3. Blake Corum - Michigan RB (+1500) (Bet $100 to collect $1600)

I think there is at least a chance that we see Blake Corum's Heisman odds shorten a lot more before the season is over. Sportsbooks love to give other players a shot and the leading rusher on a top-5 team is a prime candidate to be on the receiving end of that. The issue with Corum is that, like Stroud, he plays in the Big Ten. Sure, the Big Ten is probably the second-best conference in college football, but it's nowhere near the SEC this season. The one thing Corum does have over Stroud is he has the matchup with No. 16 Illinois ahead. If Corum goes on a massive tear over the next four games and Michigan ends up in the College Football Playoff, I think we see his odds around the +600-to-+800 range. It also helps when you put up 177 yards on 33 carries against a rival school, as Corum did this past week when facing Michigan State.

4. Caleb Williams - USC QB (+1500) (Bet $100 to collect $1600)

I'm waving the white flag when it comes to my Caleb Williams Heisman bet that I placed before the season. BUT, I still think it has more to do with the lack of power in the Pac-12 than any shortcomings from Williams himself. On the season, Caleb Williams is 11th in the country in passing yards (2,382), tied for third in TD passes (24) and ninth in QBR (85.7). On top of all that, he's thrown just one interception. It was the bad game against Oregon State and the loss to Utah that ultimately were his undoing when it comes to winning the Heisman this year, but I didn't see anything that would make me scared to put him at No. 1 on my Heisman Watch list next year. A win over No. 12 UCLA later in the year and the Trojans may even find themselves in the Pac-12 title game, which is pretty remarkable for Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams' first season in Southern California.

5. Bo Nix - Oregon QB (+2500) (Bet $100 to collect $2600)

This is not the reality that Auburn fans envisioned when they started saying "Bo Nix for Heisman", but here we are. Unfortunately for those Auburn fans, Nix is an Oregon Duck now and lighting up scoreboards out west. Nix earning a spot on this week's Heisman Watch list means two things. One, he's found his place in college football and is finally living up to the hype he had when he enrolled at Auburn. Two, for the first time in over a year, Bryce Young is not within the top five of the current Heisman odds. That doesn't have much to do with Nix, other than he kicked him off the list with his strong play, but it's still of note. Nix has been fantastic this season at Oregon. He's racked up yards through the air and with his legs. In Week 1, it looked like Nix may not even make it through the season as the Ducks' starting QB. It turns out he was just playing a great Georgia defense.
