On Thursday we get a matchup between two teams in the middle of solid seasons as the Minnesota Golden Gophers take on the Syracuse Orange at Yankee Stadium in the Pinstripe Bowl.

When it comes to college football bowl game predictions, the big thing to account for these days is opt-outs. Luckily for us, the list of Syracuse vs. Minnesota opt-outs and injuries is quite short. But, it features some big names for both teams, unfortunately.

As is to be expected, these opt-outs have impacted the Syracuse vs. Minnesota odds in a big way. What should normally be a close game now features a double-digit spread as sportsbooks call for a blowout.

For Minnesota, the good news is that sixth-year RB Mo Ibrahim will be playing and likely receiving a high dose of carries as he's on the verge of multiple school records. PJ Fleck is a players' coach and will likely be looking to feed Ibrahim the rock.

Syracuse is usually a running team as well, but one of the most notable Minnesota vs. Syracuse opt-outs is leading rusher Sean Tucker, who has decided to withdraw from the game to prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Still, there's midday football on and we need a Syracuse vs. Minnesota prediction and pick. So, let's break down the odds and figure out who is going to win this one.

It's interesting to see the Syracuse vs. Minnesota odds so lopsided. On the one hand, I get it. I get that Sean Tucker is a big part of what Syracuse does on offense and that being without him is going to hurt. but, 10.5 points?

This is the same Syracuse team that took Clemson to the wire and Tucker rushed the ball five times for 54 yards in that game. So, it's not like he was a huge part of what they were doing.

The real killer for Syracuse is that it appears as though Taner Morgan, who hasn't played for Minnesota since November 5, has been medically cleared and will be playing in the Pinstripe Bowl.

I think this is why we are seeing such lopsided Syracuse vs. Minnesota odds. Not only is Tucker out, but Tanner Morgan will be back. Syracuse's run game is taking a massive hit and a usually one-dimensional Minnesota offense is getting back their signal caller.

So, that's how we end up with Syracuse vs. Minnesota odds having Minnesota as a 10.5-point favorite and sitting at -400 on the moneyline.

Syracuse vs. Minnesota Prediction

Things at Syracuse are kind of a mess right now. Not only did they lose their starting RB for this game, but their offensive and defensive coordinators also left. Here's the thing, I don't really care. I expect both teams to want to pound the rock. Mo Ibrahim may get 100 carries while on the verge of etching his name in the school record book. I think Minnesota wins this game, but 10.5 points is too much for me to spot a team in a ball-possession game like this one.
