Over the last seven days, TCU has seen 81.8% of bets placed on them to win the CFP National Championship. Meaning that only 18.2% of bets have been placed on Georgia to win their second straight title. Of course, Georgia is the heavy favorite, given their -12.5 point spread. Third, TCU is playing for its first national championship since 1938, when Davey O’Brien led them over Carnegie Tech in the Sugar Bowl to secure an unbeaten season.
TCU hasn’t won a national title in 85 years. The last time they did it, they were led by the legendary Davey O’Brien. This year they are led by the first TCU QB to ever win the Davey O’Brien award, Max Duggan. As if in perfect symmetry. TCU’s drought is the 7th longest active drought in the NCAA. Only Cal, 86 years, Duke, 87 years, Purdue, 92 years, Navy, 97 years, Vanderbilt, 101 years, and Rutgers, 154 years, have longer title droughts than TCU. Of course, Georgia ended a 41-year title drought when they won the National Title last year, so anything is possible.
