NFC East Odds: Giants Sign Golladay, Shorten Odds to Win Division
The NFC East is expected to be one of the closest divisions in the NFL this season. It’s more of a lack of top teams than every team being part of the top tier of the NFL, but still, it’s a toss-up when trying to predict who will come out on top.
Last week, the team with the longest odds to win the NFC East was the New York Giants. There are still questions about just how good Daniel Jones is, how good their receiving corps can be and if their defense can play well enough to compete with some of the best teams.
On Saturday, the Giants addressed at least one of those questions, signing WR Kenny Golladay to a massive 4-year, $72-million dollar deal with $40 million of that number being guaranteed.
The deal makes Golladay, who is considered a fringe No. 1 receiver, tied with Tyreek Hill and Odell Beckham Jr. as the sixth highest paid receiver in the league. Whether they overpaid or not is a debate for another time. But, the move has shortened their odds at almost every sportsbook, even giving them the same NFC East champion odds as the Eagles at some books.
NFC East Champion Betting
Prior to Saturday’s signing, the Giants’ best odds to win the division sat at +600 while the Philadelphia Eagles had odds of +500 to win the NFC East.
Following the Golladay signing, the best odds for the Giants to win the division dropped to +550, a clear indication that oddsmakers expect Golladay to have a big impact on the offense. In most places, the Giants are still trailing the Eagles, but FanDuel has set both teams at +500, odds that imply a 16.7% chance of leading the division come the end of the season.
