NFL Draft Odds: 50% of Bets on Rashawn Slater for First OL Taken

For about a year now Penei Sewell has been OT1 for the 2021 NFL Draft. Even after sitting out a year due to COVID-19, nothing has changed. Oddsmakers still see Sewell as the favorite to be the first offensive lineman taken during the first round of the draft, giving him -390 odds or an implied 79.6% chance. Yet, bettors are starting to believe it’ll be former Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater who goes first in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Slater is currently the oddsmakers’ second favorite at +250, or an implied 28.6% chance of being the first offensive lineman off the board. However, 50% of bets over the last 7 days have been on Slater being the first offensive lineman selected. Sewell checks in as the bettors’ second favorite with 33.3% of bets placed on him.

Reports over maturity issues with Sewell may be causing him to fall in the NFL Draft in the eyes of some bettors. It’s also may be that Slaters’ versatility to kick inside and play guard may be pushing him up boards. Whatever the case, bettors believe in the offensive lineman from Northwestern. He still trails Sewell significantly in odds, but there does seem to be some momentum on Slater’s side.
