NFL Draft Odds: 79% of Bets on Justin Fields to go 3rd Overall

NFL Draft odds are ever evolving, and everyone knows It’s not over until it’s over. Bettors won’t be convinced that Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields isn’t going  No. 3 in Thursday's NFL Draft. Despite every rumor to the contrary, 79.1% of bets over the last 24 hours have been placed on Fields going third overall.

Fields is coming off an unbelievable year at Ohio State. One that saw him reach the National Championship game after picking apart Clemson in the semifinals and finish 7th in Heisman Trophy voting.

Fields is currently given +500 odds to go 3rd overall, a slight uptick from the +550 odds he was given earlier in the week. Still, that puts him third on the NFL Draft market, behind Trey Lance at +300 and Mac Jones at -190.

Fields played an abreviated schedule in 2020 due to some failures by the Big 10, but Lance didn't play a single game last season. Jones won a national title with Alabama.

NFL Draft Betting

Bettors just see it differently than oddsmakers when it comes to the 3rd overall pick. Fields is the runaway favorite at 79.1% of public betting, and he’s followed by Trey Lance at 9.3%. Oddsmakers’ favorite Mac Jones has only seen 4.7% of bets over the last 24 hours.

Bettors have disliked Mac Jones all offseason. Throughout the NFL Draft process, they’ve refused to believe he was the pick. The only time bettors wavered was after news that Fields had epilepsy, and even then it was a tie at 33% of bets between Fields and Jones. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on their part, or maybe Jones just isn’t the lock at #3 that he’s seemed to be since the 49ers traded up.
