The significance of this matchup isn’t lost on Kevin Stefanski and his precious Browns because it was the Chiefs that had eliminated them in the playoffs. Cleveland is determined to prove its credentials as a legitimate contender. That the Browns belong among the league’s heavyweights. Cleveland Browns Betting Odds & Overview

The Cleveland Browns gained the respect and admiration of their peers for what they were able to accomplish in head coach Kevin Stefanski’s first year. They were amongst the best teams in the AFC, finishing with a stellar 11-5-0 record. And they proved their mettle with a wildcard win over AFC North champions, Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the divisional round, things weren’t quite as straightforward. The Browns struggled initially and were down 19-3 by halftime. It wasn’t until Patrick Mahomes suffered a concussion in the second half of the game that the Browns were finally able to make inroads. The drew closer on the scoreboard, but in the Chiefs did enough to clinch the 22-17 win in the end.

Stefanski and the Browns are keen to build on their best season in recent memory. Books fancy Cleveland’s chances in the AFC North, tipping the Browns as the second-best bet after Baltimore Ravens to win the division title. As well, they’re amongst the Top 10 Super Bowl 56 contenders. Another year in the Stefanski’s system should make the Browns an even better team. They’ve also made some savvy moves in the offseason to bolster the roster. However, a lot depends on how well they handle the weight of expectation. More specifically, how well Baker Mayfield handles the pressure. These are unchartered waters for Mayfield, as he attempts to lead his side to its second-straight double-digit winning season.

Kansas City Chiefs Betting Odds & Overview

The Kansas City Chiefs need very little introduction. Just about everyone and their grandmother has heard of Patrick Mahomes, even if they’ve never watched a Chiefs game or a single football down played. His phenomenal reputation precedes him, his star power transcends all boundaries. In three years, Mahomes has accomplished more than most quarterbacks have in their entire careers or ever dreamed of accomplishing. However, he’s also coming off one of the worst losses of his young career – a resounding 31-9 beatdown by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55.

Although the Chiefs were thoroughly outplayed, outmuscled and outgunned by the Buccaneers, they are nevertheless the team to beat according to bookmakers. SBLVI markets opened with Kansas City Chiefs Odds priced at +500 and ahead of the defending champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers Odds of +600. On balance, one loss in Super Bowl 55 wasn’t going to undo three years of absolute supremacy and domination over the best part of the league.

Cleveland Browns vs. Kansas City Chiefs Prediction and Betting Preview

The hype and anticipation surrounding the first meeting between the Browns and Chiefs since their dramatic encounter in the 2020 playoffs is palpable.

It’s not the first time the Browns are faced with high expectations. It’s the first time that they’re facing such expectations after a successful campaign though. How Mayfield and Co; deal with it all remains to be seen, but they’ll want to avoid replicating last season’s Week 1 opener. Amidst similarly high expectations, the Browns were found wanting in a sizable 38-6 loss to the Baltimore Browns. Overall, the Browns went 11-5-0 SU and 6-10-0 ATS with a minus 0.7 margin of victory.

The Chiefs have been here before. Moreover, they’ve yet to lose a season opener with Mahomes at the helm. Quite the opposite, Mahomes lights up in the first week, so excited is he to return to football that its practically contagious. In 2018, Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 38-28 win over the Chargers on the road in his NFL debut. The year after, he led the Chiefs to a 40-26 win over the Jaguars on the road, and last season, he led the Chiefs to a 34-20 win over the Houston Texans.

The Chiefs are 38-10-0 SU with an 8.6 winning margin on average in the regular season since 2018. Mahomes lifted the Chiefs to 12-4-0 records in each  of his first two seasons before going 14-2-0 last season with a 6.9 winning margin on average. As well, the Chiefs are 26-20-2 ATS since 2018, but they went 7-9-0 ATS in 2020.

All things being considered, three seasons have shown that betting against Mahomes and the Chiefs is ill-advised in most cases In fact, it’s possible to argue that the Cleveland Browns vs. Kansas City Chiefs Odds, which are currently trading with various market operators, don’t do Mahomes or the Chiefs justice at all. While six points might seem a lot to cover for most teams, it’s nothing when the quarterback is a phenom. So, the recommended NFL pick here is to lay the points with the Chiefs.

NFL Picks: Chiefs -6
