Latest Super Bowl Odds: Las Vegas Super Bowl Odds Tank After Jon Gruden Resignation
The Raiders began the year with low expectations. They were given +8000 odds to win the Super Bowl, 23rd on the market. According to oddsmakers, there was an 81% chance they’d miss the playoffs.
Those odds shifted as the season went on. At 3-0, the Raiders were a real Super Bowl threat. They cut their odds to +3500 and were close to the top-10 odds in the league. Then, after back-to-back losses, they came back down to Earth. Their odds dropping back to +8000.
Then the news of Gruden resigning came down last night. While necessary, the move did tank the Raiders odds even further. They now sit at +10000, tied with the Colts and Panthers, to win the Super Bowl.
Even bettors are running away from the Raiders. Over the last seven days, before Gruden’s firing, the Raiders had seen 1.3% of bets to win the Super Bowl. That was good for the 12th most in the NFL. But, since the news broke, they aren’t even among the top-15 teams on the betting market.
This past week has been a nightmare for the Raiders. First, news of Gruden’s email comes out, and then they lose to a Bears team that could only manage 109 passing yards, then Gruden resigns as more emails come out. So now, the Raiders will have to deal with the scandal for the remainder of the season while they try to overcome a two-game losing streak with a new head coach. Honestly, those +10000 odds seem pretty generous considering the hurdles they have in front of them now.
