Panthers vs. Giants Betting Preview

The Carolina Panthers are riding a three-game losing streak into Week 7. The pressure is mounting on Sam Darnold to step up as questions are being raised about his overall performance. And yet, the Panthers are the bookmakers’ favorites for their upcoming tilt against the New York Giants.

Daniel Jones and the G-men are riding a two-game losing streak, but with one win on the season thus far, confidence in Joe Judge’s side is understandably low.

Books opened with the Giants catching 2.5 points, but the NFL line has moved up to a field goal since open doors. Similarly, the game total opened on 42.5 points but ticked up to 43 points since Sunday.

Carolina Panthers Odds & Overview

The Carolina Panthers have come back down to earth with a thud since starting the season on a three-game winning streak. Things started to go south in Week 4 following 38-28 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on the road. That was followed by a surprise 21-18 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and a 34-28 loss to the Minnesota Vikings – both at the Bank of America Stadium.

The Panthers are down to a 3-3 record on the season, and all the cheery bonhomie Darnold enjoyed in the month of September has all but dissipated. In fact, in the last three games, shades of the up-and-down quarterback the New York Jets sent packing out of MetLife this offseason were glaringly visible for all to see.

Whether this is a sign of Darnold’s regression or simply more evidence that he’s not a top-flight NFL quarterback –and never will be – is a source of much debate. What’s obvious is his second chance in the NFL isn’t going to plan. And, in hindsight, Carolina’s wins against the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Houston Texans were deceiving.

New York Giants Odds & Overview

Daniel Jones and the Giants are off to another disappointing start to the season. The Giants are 1-5 straight up (SU) and riding a two-game losing streak after succumbing to losses to the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams.

Last Sunday’s 38-11 decision against the Rams saw the Giants hit a new nadir with their supporters. Fans started to show their frustration in the second quarter as the boos rained down on the Giants. Before the fourth quarter was over, many had had enough and started to file out of the stadium before the game concluded.

Head coach Joe Judge and his staff are all under the cosh, so too is third-year quarterback Daniel Jones, who is proving to be a poor man’s successor to Eli Manning. It’s not all Jones’ fault, though. He’s a victim of the system around him. His protection is suspect – he was under constant pressure and sacked four times by the Rams defense, twice for the fumble lost. Jason Garrett’s offensive play-calling leaves much to be desired as well, and the G-men are dealing with never-ending injuries.

Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants Betting Preview & Predictions

This is a must-win game for both the Panthers and Giants for different reasons. The Panthers can still redeem themselves this season and just about make a run for it down the stretch, but everything depends on Darnold rising to the occasion. Conversely, the Giants have some kind of redemption.

The Giants are one foot out of the door, their season is practically done and done. Teams with a 1-5 record through the first six weeks of the season almost never make the playoffs. It would take an otherworldly effort to make the cut, something that is hard to see from this motley crew. So, winning this game is more about individual preservation – from head coach to quarterback, job security is literally on the line.

Therefore, the stakes riding on this game are pretty high, and that makes this a tossup for NFL picks. The Panthers have beaten up on lesser teams, but those early victories came when Darnold was living it up with his new team and brimming with positivity. He’s anything but that right now, and a return to his former stomping grounds at MetLife could be more of a déjà vu experience than the bookmakers give credit. The Giants are unreliable as they come, but this might be a matchup that they can conquer as the home underdogs. Just don’t go betting the farm on it.
