NFL MVP Odds: 50% of Bets Are on Derrick Henry To Take Home the Award

Whenever you look at NFL MVP odds, the consensus is that a quarterback is going to win the award. Now, more often than not that seems to be the case. Just twice in the past 15 seasons, has a non-quarterback won the MVP. You’d have to go back to Adrian Peterson’s 2012 season to see the last time that it was done.

Despite the longshot odds, the public has been on Derrick Henry recently as he received 50 percent of the bets for MVP in the last 24 hours.

So far in seven games, Henry leads the league in rushing attempts, yards and touchdowns with 869 yards on 191 attempts and 10 touchdowns. Paced out over a full season, Henry is on pace for 2,110 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns. His yard total would just surpass Eric Dickerson for most in a single season and 24 touchdowns would put him tied for fifth all-time with John Riggins.

Comparatively, when looking at the last three RB MVP’s this is how Henry compares to their per game paces

More than likely, Henry is going to have to get his touchdowns and yards per attempt up a little bit but if he remains relatively close to on pace for the remainder of the 2021 season, he certainly has a chance at the award. Considering that he has (+2500) odds right now which ranks him eighth if it goes to a non-QB there is no question who it would be.
