Chase Young Injury Update: How Does the Injury Impact Washington?
The Washington Football Team was riding high, on their way to an upset win over the Tampa Bay Buccanneers when the worst possible thing could’ve happened. Former second overall pick, Chase Young, suffered an injury on the field that looked bad.
It was a non-contact injury and he had to be helped off the field, it was only a matter of time before we got the official word, which unfortunately came today. Chase Young is done for the season with a torn ACL.
Young was dominant in his rookie year with 7.5 sacks and 24 pressures getting him to the Pro Bowl in his age 21 season. This year, the sack numbers weren’t exactly there with just 1.5 through the team’s first nine games but his pressure rate was fairly close to where it was last season indicating a likely change in those numbers in the second half of the season.
Unfortunately, he won’t get that chance this year. So what does that mean for the Washington Football Team?
They already weren’t a very good defense with him on the field so it likely will only get worse. They are the 27th ranked defense overall in the league and they’re just 23rd in the league in sacks. Their pressure percentage of 23.8 also will likely drop in Young’s absence.

Well, they’re currently 3.5 point underdogs to the Carolina Panthers. That line has moved a half a point since this news and the news that Cam Newton is likely to start this week. In terms of the playoffs and Super Bowl odds don’t expect much of a change. At 3-6 in an extremely tight conference, they’re going to need a lot of help to get into the playoffs.Â
