NFL MVP Race: Justin Herbert Soars Up The Rankings
Without a question, one of the bright young faces in this game is Justin Herbert. He burst onto the scene as a rookie with the Los Angeles Chargers last year and it seems like in year two he’s picked up where he left off for L.A.
On Sunday Night Football, it was just another example of his dominance this time against a stout Pittsburgh defense. Herbert put on a clinic on the way to a 41-37 thrilling win over the Steelers at home.
Herbert was 30 of 41 (73.2 percent) for 382 yards (9.3 Y/A) three touchdowns, a pick, and 90 rushing yards on top of that. His 116.1 rating from this game was actually just his fourth highest of the season which is pretty impressive considering how good he looked last night.
Through 10 games, he has the Chargers at 6-4 with some fairly productive numbers to go along with it. Here’s how he compares to the rest in some key categories this season.

His play of late has yielded him some love in the MVP conversation. Just last week, he was at +2500 odds to take home the award coming off of a Week 10 loss to Minnesota. Now, his odds move up to +1200 with puts him sixth in the conversation behind Tom Brady, Josh Allen, Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, and Aaron Rodgers.
Sure, he still has a ways to go to really make some noise here but a few more performances like he just had and it’s a completely different conversation that we’re having about Justin Herbert in the MVP race.
