Social Media Reacts to the Indianapolis Colts Choking Away a Spot in NFL Playoffs
Just when we all thought the NFL couldn't get any more nuts, Week 18 happened. The Jacksonville Jaguars happened. Or, maybe it was the Indianapolis Colts who didn't happen.
Yes, the same awful Jaguars team that came into the day on an eight-game losing streak and had just two wins on the entire season managed to completely upset the AFC playoff picture. NFL betting underdogs of more than two touchdowns, Jacksonville stunned the Colts 26-11 on Sunday to end an otherwise depressing season on a high note.
Hell yeah baby, DUUUVAL indeed!!!
Actually, let's talk about Duval County for just a second. It seems that the Colts have a major issue with playing in the northern part of Florida. After all, Sunday's result extending a losing streak for Indianapolis when playing in Jacksonville that dates all the way back to 2014:
What a stat. Even with the chance to clinch a spot in the NFL Playoffs, Indianapolis still failed to get the job done in Duval. At this point, Colts fans have to be wondering what it would take for their team to achieve a positive result.
One tweet suggested a unique new NFL rule proposal after Sunday's game:
I mean, without a doubt, the Colts go 0-17 next year under the new rules, right? You can bet your mortgage on that!
Honestly, there's a case to be made that this was the sorriest Jaguars team Indy has faced during that entire span. After all, even last year's team had Gardner Freakin' Minshew!
The common themes on Twitter after the Colts' choked away a playoff spot seemed to be a mix of stunned shock at the outcome and pure hilarity.
All of those memes are great, but it's hard to top this quip from the verified NFL on CBS Twitter account itself:
The staffer who posted that deserves nothing less than a raise and free lunch for a week.
We seriously can't end this recap without one of the greatest sound bites in all of sports history:
Jim Mora's words sure ring true for the Colts and their fans today. What a choke job.
