Carolina Panthers Super Bowl Odds: Baker Mayfield Trade Slashes Panthers' Odds

Carolina Panthers Super Bowl Odds: Baker Mayfield Trade Slashes Panthers' Odds
We've been waiting for Baker Mayfield to be officially traded since it became clear that Deshaun Watson was headed to Cleveland this offseason.
On Wednesday we finally found out where Mayfield would be playing next season as he was traded to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional pick. But, how does this impact the Carolina Pathers Super Bowl odds? NFC South odds? In short, the oddsmakers seem to like the move.
The most likely landing spot was always Carolina, but there were some issues with acquiring the former first-overall pick.
For starters, Sam Darnold, another former franchise QB, is already in Carolina and has seemingly won over the locker room. Second of all, Panthers wide receiver Robbie Anderson has already voiced his displeasure with a potential Baker Mayfield trade, commenting "Nooooo" on an Instagram post discussing the potential trade. This comment came from Anderson's official Instagram account @chosen1ra.
Whether or not anyone wants Mayfield there is irrelevant. Baker Mayfield has been acquired by the Carolina Panthers. But how does this impact the Carolina Panthers Super Bowl odds? In the minutes following the trade their Super Bowl odds were slashed by some sites.

In theory, Baker Mayfield is headed to Carolina to compete in a QB competition this summer. He may win the job, he may be the backup, but you'd think the trade would have minimal impact on the Carolina Panthers Super Bowl odds. However, that is not the case.
Prior to Wednesday's Baker Mayfield trade, the Panthers were +12000 to win the Super Bowl at most sportsbooks. Now, following the trade, their odds have been slashed as low as +6700. That's massive movement for a trade that may have only returned your backup QB.
For reference, at +12000 the Panthers' Super Bowl odds were implying a 0.8% chance they would win the Super Bowl. At +6700, that probability is up to 1.5%. Sure, it's still a longshot, but their chances to win the Super Bowl have essentially doubled with the Baker Mayfield trade

The Panthers' NFC South odds is where we see some of the biggest changes following the Baker Mayfield trade.
On Wednesday, prior to the trade, the Panthers' NFC South odds sat at +1300. They were the third favorite, behind the Buccaneers and the Saints, and were a long way away from the two. They're still the third favorite, but their NFC South odds have been slashed and they're closing in on the Saints.
Prior to the Baker Mayfield trade, the Saints were +400 to win the NFC South and the Panthers were +1300. Now, the Panthers are down to +1000 and the Saints are out to +450.
