Super Bowl Odds: New York Jets Are Second Most Backed Team to Win Super Bowl LVII

Could the New York Jets be this year’s Cincinnati Bengals? Bettors certainly believe so, as the Jets are bettors’ second choice to win it all over the last 60 days.

It should come as no surprise that sportsbooks don’t love the Jets. Gang Green is given +15000 odds to win the Super Bowl, or an implied 0.5% chance. Only the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans have worse odds in the entire NFL. Sportsbooks are so sure the Jets will be terrible that they’ve given them -1000 odds, or an implied 90.9% chance to miss the playoffs this season. Of course, the Bengals were given +15000 odds to win the Super Bowl at this time last year as well.

New York Jets Super Bowl Odds

Perhaps it’s those long odds and seeing the Bengals' improbable run last year that’s caused bettors to run to back the Jets. Over the last 60 days, the Jets have seen 5.3% of bets placed on them to win the Super Bowl. That ties them for the second-most in the NFL with the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Only the Buffalo Bills, 11.3%, have seen more bets placed on them. The Jets have seen more bets than the Broncos, 5%, the Bengals, 4.8%, the Packers, 3.5%, the Rams, 3.2%, and the Chiefs, 3%.

Sportsbooks don’t hate the Jets offseason. In fact, they like it a lot. Breece Hall is the second favorite to win offensive rookie of the year and Garrett Wilson is 5th. Sauce Gardner is 4th win Defensive rookie of the Year and Jermaine Johnson is 7th. The issue is that they don’t like everything else about the team. Carl Lawson is given +8000 odds to win Comeback Player of the Year, that’s 30th on the market. Robert Saleh is given +3500 odds to win Coach of the Year, that’s 25th on the market. Zach Wilson is given +15000 odds to win MVP, the worst of any of the 6 QBs drafted last year who are expected to start this season. Yet, bettors are backing the young Jets to finally grow into themselves and not only become a playoff contender, but a Super Bowl contender.
