Baker Mayfield News: Sportsbooks Release Season Odds for Mayfield after Panthers Name him Starter
Earlier this offseason, the Carolina Panthers acquired Baker Mayfield for a future conditional pick. The Cleveland Browns already brought in Deshaun Watson and after struggling in 2021, the Panthers needed a better option than Sam Darnold.
The Panthers put up this allusion of a quarterback battle but everyone pretty much knew it would be Baker Mayfield starting. The Panthers officially announced yesterday that it will be Mayfield under center and now the focus can shift on what he does this season as the starter.
Here's a look at his odds to win various awards including comeback player of the year, MVP, and some individual player props.

Baker Mayfield Odds
Baker Mayfield Comeback Play of the Year Odds: +1200 (Bet $100 to win $1200)
Derrick Henry, Jameis Winston, and Christian McCaffrey are all given a better chance to win the Comeback Player of the Year according to the odds. Last season, it was Joe Burrow taking home the award. In fact, if you go back over the last four years a quarterback has won the award every season.
With that logic could Baker outplay Jameis Winston? It's possible. The Panthers would need their weapons to stay healthy and if McCaffrey is healthy and putting up big numbers it'll likely be hard for Baker to win the award over his teammate.
Baker Mayfield Most Passing Touchdowns Odds: +5000 (Bet $100 to win $5000)
Baker Mayfield has a career-high of 27 touchdown passes which he set back in his rookie season, the best season of his career. For context, last year Tom Brady led the league with 43 touchdowns. It would likely take 40+ touchdowns for Baker to win this award which seems like a massive stretch.
Baker Mayfield MVP Odds: +10000 (Bet $100 to win $10,000)
It would be a longshot for Baker to win the MVP at +10000. It's unfair to Baker to think he can be anything more than a league-average type of quarterback in the NFL. If he does that the Panthers are likely happy but is he going to throw for 5,000 yards and 40 touchdowns? Highly doubtful.
Baker Mayfield Passing Touchdowns: 22.5 O/U
Last year in 14 starts, Baker went for 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He's gone over this number in two out of the three seasons before that though. 22.5 is a really good number for him, he likely comes in right around it which is exactly why the casinos in Vegas look the way that they do. My guess is that he bounces back but comes in just under the passing touchdowns mark.
Baker Mayfield Passing Yards: 3599.5 O/U
The last time Baker was healthy, in 2020, he came in under this number with 3,563 passing yards. That was a 16-game season though so if he plays all 17 games, I'd imagine that he would have a pretty good shot to clear it. Health may be an issue for him though as he was coming of a shoulder issue that was nagging him all season long in 2021 so proceed with caution.
