Alexander Mattison Trade Destinations: 5 Most Likely Teams to Trade for Alexander Mattison

Alexander Mattison has been one of the best fill-in running backs in the league over the last couple of years, sitting behind Dalvin Cook. Over three years in his career, he has 1,387 yards on 330 carries (4.2 yards per attempt) and six touchdowns.

He's also a good receiver out of the backfield as he has 55 catches for 435 yards and two scores through the air. Sitting behind Dalvin Cook though, one of the league's best rushers, doesn't allow him a ton of opportunities.

Apparently, according to reports, teams have called to ask about Mattison and he may be on the move. We're going to look at the five most likely destinations.

Alexander Mattison Trade Destinations

Houston Texans

There's no way to sugarcoat this one, the Texans running back room just isn't very good. As currently constructed, they are projected to start Dameon Pierce, a fourth-round rookie back, and have Marlon Mack for veteran insurance. For context, Mack has just 127 rushing yards in seven games over the past two years. Mattison would immediately be the best running back in that room.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams have a loaded roster, outside of the running back room. Cam Akers is returning back in 2022 but he's returning from injury so I don't necessarily expect him to be the savior. Beyond that, Darrell Henderson rushed for 688 yards and five touchdowns last year but doesn't give you much through the air. Alexander Mattison would help round out the skillset in this Rams room and we know how they feel about trading future picks.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs don't really run the ball a lot but a lot of it has to do with Clyde Edwards-Helaire underwhelming. Selecting Edwards-Helaire over Jonathan Taylor is still a headscratcher but that's a story for another day. The Chiefs lost a major weapon in Tyreek Hill this past offseason and could use another spark, even if this one comes from the running back position instead of wide receiver.

Atlanta Falcons

Cordarrelle Patterson was great for the Falcons last year as this dual-threat guy but he's not really an every-down back. Beyond that, the Falcons have veteran Damien Williams and former BYU rusher Tyler Allgeier but neither of those guys would have as much upside in this Arthur Smith offense as Alexander Mattison.

Washington Commanders

It's been the summer of regression for Antonio Gibson as his role seems to be diminishing with the team as he falls out of favor. JD McKissic is a nice receiver but has been up and down as a rusher since joining Washington in 2020. The Commanders also just lost rookie rusher, Brian Robinson Jr., after he was shot in an attempted robbery. They're thin at the position right now and someone like Alexander Mattison would really help them stabilize the position.
