2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Odds: Micah Parsons Has Nearly 70% Chance of Winning Award

Heading into Week 9, Micah Parsons continues to sperate himself for the 2022 NFL Defensive Player Award. Jason Radowitz looks at the latest 2022 Defensive Player of the Year odds.

2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Odds: Micah Parsons Has Nearly 70% Chance of Winning Award

Micah Parsons started the season at +1100 to win the Defensive Player of the Year Award. He moved to -125 recently. But after a fumble recovery for a touchdown last week against the Bears, Micah Parsons now has a 69.23% chance at winning the Defensive Player of the Year with about half of the season complete.

Nick Bosa and Myles Garrett are still far from Parsons in the Defensive Player of the Year race.

Here's a look at the updated the Defensive Player of the Year odds as we head into Week 9 of the NFL season.

Why Parsons Has Nearly 70% Chance to Win DPOY

Through eight games, Micah Parsons has 26 tackles, ten assists tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and a touchdown on that fumble recovery.

He earned another sack against the Chicago Bears last week and is now tied for third place in the sacks category. Parsons is on pace to earn the same tackles as last year. He might even produce fewer solo tackles this season. However, he's on pace for way more sacks than last season. He earned just 13 sacks last year and already has eight about halfway through the season.

He also had just three forced fumbles last year. He's got two this year. Oh, and he earned a fumble recovery for a touchdown. He didn't do that last year, either. Parsons is undoubtedly improving his game this year and has the most well-rounded stats in the NFL on defense this season.

Can Anyone Catch Micah Parsons For DPOY?

Last week, I shared that I liked Von Miller at +2500 to win the award as a longshot option. But after Myles Garrett's performance against the Bengals on Monday Night Football, I think if any player can genuinely catch up for Parsons, it would be Garrett.

Garrett earned 1.5 sacks on Monday and has now earned 4.5 sacks in his last three weeks. Garrett will be in the conversation for defensive player of the year if the defense starts to pick things up and continue to play as they did against the Bengals.

He's only had two weeks without a sack and has three games with more than one sack. At +850, there's value on Garrett.
