AFC East Odds: Bettors Split Between Bills, Dolphins, and Jets in AFC East Race

The AFC East is the tightest race in the NFL. All four teams can say they have a realistic chance of not only making the playoffs but also winning the division. The sportsbooks don’t really agree though, as they have the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins far removed from the New York Jets and New England Patriots. Bettors do agree that the Patriots are long shots, but are sportsbooks sleeping on the Jets?

AFC East Odds - Bettors Split in AFC East Race

Sportsbooks and bettors agree there’s a clear top two in this division. The Bills are given -180 odds, or an implied 64.3% chance to win. They’re followed by the Dolphins at +250, or an implied 28.6% chance to win the division. Meanwhile, over the last 24 hours, 38.1% of bets have been placed on the Bills to win the division and 33.3% have been placed on the Dolphins.

The Patriots are the clear fourth team in the division. They’re given +1800 odds, or an implied 5.3% chance to win the division. Only 4.8% of bets over the last 24 hours have been placed on them.

Where things get tricky is the New York Jets. Sportsbooks give them +1200 odds, or an implied 7.7% chance to win the division. Over the last 24 hours though, 23.8% of bets have been placed on them to win the division. A clear third, but it’s also clear that bettors believe that sportsbooks are undervaluing them.

It’s clear to everyone that the Dolphins and Bills are clear contenders. It’s just a question of how real the Jets are. Sportsbooks see the division as a two-team race, bettors see the Jets as a legitimate threat. That’s not a shocker since the sportsbooks still don’t believe the Jets are even going to make the playoffs, -112 to miss the playoffs.

Remember, prior to the season bettors at OddsChecker had the Jets as their second-favorite team to win the Super Bowl. Only the Bills had seen more bets placed on them. So are bettors just more bullish on them or are sportsbooks underestimating them? Only time will tell and we will see who will win the AFC East in a few short weeks.
