The New York Jets are in search of a new quarterback. Sportsbooks expect them to land one of the big-name veteran quarterbacks on the market, but a rookie isn’t out of the question either. Even if it might be a nightmare scenario, running it back is on the table, and potentially likely. For now, though, it's Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr who leads the way.

Carr is given +275 odds, or an implied 26.7% chance to be the Jets' Week 1 quarterback. The same odds they’re given to land him in the Carr trade market, which has them a slight favorite over the Colts who are given +325 odds.
Carr isn’t the only big-name quarterback they could be after though. Jimmy Garoppolo is given +375 odds, or an implied 21.1% chance to be the Jets' Week 1 starter. Aaron Rodgers isn’t far behind at +500, or an implied 16.7% chance. Lamar Jackson is even a realistic option at +700, or an implied 12.5% chance.
If the Jets don’t land one of the big-name free agents, they’re expected to run it back. Mike White is given +500 odds, or a strong 16.7% chance to be the team’s Week 1 starter. Zach Wilson is given +1000 odds, or an implied 9.1% chance. It’s highly unlikely, but Joe Flacco is an extreme longshot at +5000, or an implied 2% chance to get the job.
There’s also the draft, though the books don’t think it’s too likely. Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Will Levis are all given +1600 odds, or an implied 5.9% chance to be the team’s Week 1 starter. Notably, Anthony Richardson is not on the market.
If you’re in it for the long shots, then this market has two that could turn heads. Tom Brady is given +2000 odds, or an implied 4.8% chance to be the starting quarterback for the Jets, which just feels wrong. Baker Mayfield, the quarterback the Jets thought they would draft in 2018, is given +3300 odds, or an implied 2.9% chance.
The Jets are in a bind. They don’t have much cap space, so going after a big-name veteran would likely be their only major addition this year, which would limit their ability to build around them. They don’t have extra draft capital so trading up for a rookie may cost more than they can swallow. However, they just don’t have the talent at quarterback to just run it back with White and/or Wilson.
So what do they do? Well, the books seem to believe the Jets are all-in on a veteran quarterback. Whether it’s Carr, Rodgers, Jimmy G, or Lamar. Sure White is still in play, but at this, it feels like the only way he’s the Week 1 starter is if the Jet's new quarterback, whoever that is, suffers an injury in camp.
