Super Bowl 57 MVP Odds: Jalen Hurts the Early Favorite

The Super Bowl has been set, so who are the key players that will shape the game? The books believe that the MVP will once again go to one of the quarterbacks with Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes the massive favorites. Hurts earns the slight edge though, as the Philadelphia Eagles are the favorites to win the game.

Super Bowl 57 MVP Odds

PlayerOddsImplied chance
Jalen Hurts+11047.6%
Patrick Mahomes+13043.5%
Travis Kelce+12007.7%
AJ Brown+13007.1%
Devonta Smith+24004%

Hurts is currently given +110 odds, or an implied 47.6% chance to win Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes is just behind him at +130, or an implied 43.5% chance. No other player is given even an 8% chance to win the award. It’s a little surprising given how prominent other positions have been in recent years with wide receivers taking home the ward in two of the last four, and a non-quarterback winner in three of the last seven.

So who are the top non-quarterbacks? Travis Kelce leads the way at +1200, or an implied 7.7% chance. Kelce would become the first tight-end to ever win the award if he did so. AJ Brown is next at +1300, or an implied 7.1% chance. If Brown took it home then it would mark the first time wide receivers have won back-to-back Super Bowl MVP awards since Deion Branch and Hines Ward in 2005 and 2006.

What about a defensive player, after all, it wasn’t that long ago that Von Miller powered the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory. Haason Reddick leads the way on the defensive end at +3000, or an implied 3.2% chance. Chris Jones is behind him at +5000, or an implied 2% chance to win the award.

Mahomes is the favorite to win his second MVP trophy this season. Only four previous times in NFL history has the NFL MVP also won Super Bowl MVP. They are Tom Brady in 2017, Aaron Rodgers in 2011, Terrelle Davis in 1998, and Joe Montana in 1990. Could Mahomes become the fifth player to ever do it? The books believe that’s exactly what will happen if the Chiefs win it. Meanwhile, Hurts is looking to become the first former Oklahoma Sooner to win the Super Bowl MVP. So in some way, history will be made come Super Bowl Sunday.
