Super Bowl MVP Odds Update
Saquon Barkley Super Bowl MVP Odds
The Philadelphia Eagles have relied heavily on Saquon Barkley all year, and will continue to do so in the Super Bowl. He has carried them this far, and will have to go the distance if they are getting a ring this weekend. Barkley may not have the highest chance at MVP, but is easily the fan favorite and getting the most tickets with his value. However, in order to steal the award away from Jalen Hurts if the Eagles win, he'll probably need at least two touchdowns and well over 100 yards rushing. He's been doing that pretty consistently this season, but if Hurts has 2+ touchdowns of his own and over 250 passing yards, it will be hard to take it away from him. Barkley's performance will have to greatly overshadow Hurts, and based on the latest movements, the oddsmakers certainly think it can be done.
A running back hasn't won Super Bowl MVP since 1998 when Terrell Davis did it, but Barkley is by far the best candidate to bring it home. He's now down to +250 trailing only Mahomes, and solidly ahead of Hurts at +350. Barkley scoring the first TD and helping the Eagles hold a lead throughout will be a defining factor, while Hurts has a much better shot if he leads some sort of fourth quarter comeback drive.
Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl MVP Odds
Patrick Mahomes has essentially been leading the Super Bowl MVP race since the odds opened at the beginning of the playoffs. He was +400 at the onset, and then +270 ahead of the AFC Championship against the Bills. He fought against Josh Allen who was at similar odds, but the victory obviously eliminated Allen and the Bills and boosted Mahomes up to this +120 number.
History is on Mahomes' side here, as he took home the MVP in each of the last two Super Bowl victories, including against the Eagles in 2023. He has won the MVP in all three of his Super Bowl wins, adding the first one back in 2020 over the 49ers. With the Chiefs so spaced out on offense, sharing between two RBs, two TE's, and a variety of inconsistent receivers, it's highly unlikely for anyone to outshine the QB here. He has lifted them to the majority of these victories with heroics, and we don't expect that to change. His only real challenge could be Travis Kelce, but he would have to have a monstrous game and catch basically all of Mahomes' touchdowns, which isn't really how their offense operates. If you like the Chiefs to win, you can get some extra value on Mahomes MVP at +120 compared to the -120 ML price.
Jalen Hurts Super Bowl MVP Odds
The Philadelphia Eagles will need a big showing out of Jalen Hurts if they are going to unseat the defending champs and get revenge. Hurts played great in the first rendition two years ago, even scoring an octopus late in the game. But the Eagles blew a double-digit halftime lead in Arizona, and fell by a late field goal to Andy Reid and the Chiefs. Hurts definitely wants to avenge that defeat, and he would have been on track for MVP in that game. This time around, he'll be competing with Saquon Barkley for glory, which gives them a stronger chance of winning the game, but definitely lessens his MVP probability.
