NFC West Odds: Seahawks, Cardinals Still Trail 49ers Despite Strong Start

The NFC West is now looking like one of the toughest divisions in football, and until last Thursday, every team had a winning record. The Cardinals are now 2-2 after falling to the Seahawks, giving Seattle the first tiebreaker of the year. While Arizona may not be the top contender here, the other three teams are, and we have a new leader in the latest NFC West odds.

With the Rams set to host the injured San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football tonight, they'll be a -8.5 favorite as the 49ers are without Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings. Will they be able to keep pace offensively with Mac Jones and Christian McCaffrey? The answer is probably not, which is why the NFC West division odds have already started to shift.

The Rams are the new favorite at +135 odds with the 49ers dropping back to +230 after previously opening the season as the +110 favorite and holding serve through the first four weeks. The 49ers may be 4-0 undefeated for now, but that's likely to change on Thursday night, and the road won't get any easier with these injuries slowly working their way back. Let's take a look at the latest odds shift in the NFC West as the NFL divisional action intensifies in October.

NFC West Division Breakdown

Los Angeles Rams (+135)

The Los Angeles Rams have officially leapfrogged the 49ers in the divisional odds, yet they are still trailing in the official standings for now. That all should change on Thursday Night Football, when Matthew Stafford and the Rams host the beat-up 49ers at SoFi Stadium. They have the advantage of health, leading to a balloon in the spread from -5.5 to -8.5 with San Fran injuries.

If they can take care of business, they'll move to 4-1 each, holding the tiebreaker over the 49ers and with some advantageous matchups coming up to potentially build a lead. Just last week, we saw the 49ers still at +110 with the Rams at +190, and even before these injury announcements, we pointed towards the road ahead as very favorable for a strong Rams defense and the solid offensive chemistry between Stafford and Puka, with Kyren Williams dominating on the ground. Now, the path is even clearer, as the Rams will be favorites in a large swath of their upcoming matchups.

San Francisco 49ers (+230)

The San Francisco 49ers are on the struggle bus right now, and just can't seem to stay healthy on offense. Brock Purdy will miss his third game of the season on Thursday night, with Mac Jones now making more starts than Purdy on the year. Yet somehow, they're still 4-0.

That undefeated record may change on TNF, going on the road against a feisty Rams team and also without their top two receivers, Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings. They're still waiting to get Brandon Aiyuk back, and Christian McCaffrey can't shoulder the offense all by himself. The most likely scenario is the 49ers dropping this game as 8.5-point underdogs and moving to 4-1 with the Rams, who will hold the tiebreaker for now. The 49ers will try to get healthy as soon as possible to avoid falling out of the race like last year.

Seattle Seahawks (+380)

The Seahawks held off a late charge from the Cardinals in last week's edition of Thursday Night Football, moving them higher in the race and to a 3-1 record. They'll host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday for their Week 5 matchup, and if the Rams take down the 49ers, they'll both be tied at the top of the division. If the 49ers pull an upset, the Seahawks will remain in that second position no matter what.

Arizona Cardinals (+1900)

The Cardinals are heading towards the basement of the NFC West, falling to 2-2 after losing to the Seahawks last Thursday. While they seem decent enough on the field, they've played their easiest opponents so far, and it will only get tougher. After this week against the Titans where they are a -7.5 point favorite, they're expected to be an underdog in 10 of their final 12 games.

The road may get bleak for the Cardinals very fast, and that's why we see them miles behind their division opponents in the odds despite only being a game back as of now. They're going to have to find some explosive offense if they're going to stay in the race, already losing James Conner for the season and backup Trey Benson for an extended period on top of that.
