Cardinals Next Head Coach Odds: Who Will Replace Jonathan Gannon in Arizona?

The Cardinals made another major change on Monday when they fired Jonathan Gannon after three seasons. Gannon went 15-36 during his time in Arizona and never found the consistency needed to stabilize a franchise that has dealt with constant turnover for decades. No coach in the 100 year history of the Cardinals has ever lasted more than five seasons which highlights how difficult it has been for anyone to build long term success there. The team showed flashes of competitiveness but injuries and a thin roster led to another disastrous finish.

Kyler Murray was benched mid season after suffering another injury and the Cardinals turned to Jacoby Brissett to close out the year. The offense struggled to find rhythm and the defense could not carry the load. With the third overall pick in the draft Arizona will likely consider a young quarterback but they sit behind the Jets and Raiders who are also desperate for one. That makes the coaching hire even more important. The front office is expected to target an offensive minded leader who can develop a rookie passer and maximize the talent of Marvin Harrison Jr and Michael Wilson who showed real promise late in the season.

Below are the top candidates and how each one could fit in Arizona as the team looks to replace Jonathan Gannon and turn the corner in 2026.

Cardinals Next Head Coach Odds Breakdown

Mike LaFleur (+300) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

Mike LaFleur enters as the favorite and his background fits what the Cardinals need. He is currently the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams where he has helped build a creative efficient system that highlights timing and spacing. LaFleur has worked closely with young quarterbacks and understands how to design an offense that creates simple reads and steady progress.

Arizona needs someone who can rebuild the passing game and elevate its young receivers. LaFleur’s experience in a modern scheme makes him a strong match for a team looking to reset its identity. Note that he's also the favorite for the Atlanta head coaching job, and will be highly sought after in this cycle.

Klint Kubiak (+400) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

Klint Kubiak continues to rise as one of the league’s most respected offensive coaches. He is currently the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks and comes from a system built on balance and quarterback friendly concepts.

Kubiak’s approach could help stabilize a rookie quarterback and give the Cardinals a clear structure on offense. His emphasis on play action and rhythm passing would pair well with Harrison Jr and Wilson. For a franchise that needs discipline and a defined identity Kubiak offers a steady long term plan. He is basically a candidate in nearly every head coaching opening, especially in Las Vegas and Atlanta.

Joe Brady (+500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

Joe Brady has rebuilt his reputation in Buffalo where he has helped guide the Bills offense and support Josh Allen’s development. Brady is known for creative passing concepts and an ability to adapt his scheme to the strengths of his quarterback.

Arizona needs someone who can bring fresh ideas and elevate a young passer quickly. Brady’s track record at LSU and in the NFL shows he can design explosive offenses when given the right pieces. With Harrison Jr already in place Brady could be the coach who unlocks a more dynamic attack.

Drew Petzing (+600) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

Drew Petzing is the familiar name on the list. He served as the Cardinals offensive coordinator under Gannon and has a strong understanding of the roster. Petzing helped develop parts of the offense despite the instability at quarterback and the lack of depth.

Promoting him would provide continuity and allow the team to build on the flashes shown by Wilson and Harrison Jr. The question is whether the front office wants a clean break or believes Petzing can take a bigger step with a more stable quarterback situation.

Matt Nagy (+700) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

Matt Nagy brings head coaching experience and a history of working with young quarterbacks. He is currently the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs and has spent years learning from one of the best offensive systems in the league.

Nagy’s time in Chicago had ups and downs but he did help guide the Bears to the playoffs and showed he can build a functional offense with limited pieces. Arizona may value his experience and his ability to manage a locker room. If the Cardinals want a veteran voice who can install a proven system Nagy becomes an interesting option.
