PGA POWER RANKINGS: TOP 5 GOLFERS FOR 2025 TRUIST CHAMPIONSHIP
The next Signature Event on the PGA Tour takes place this week during the 2025 Truist Championship. Located at Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course, this par 70 runs only 7,119 yards, with over 100 bunkers as the primary hazard.
Wissahickon will make its PGA Tour debut due to Quail Hollow, the normal host course, being reserved for next week's PGA Championship major. Due to the Signature Event, there is no cut line enforced this week.
Only 72 golfers will compete in this field, headlined by Rory McIlroy as the outright betting favorite at +450 odds. Scottie Scheffler just made a statement with his wire-to-wire victory at 31-under-par during the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, however, he'll be resting to gear up for the second major of the season next week.
Other notable favorites aside from McIlroy include Collin Morikawa (+1400), Xander Schauffele (+1600) and Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg at +1800. Patrick Cantlay rounds out the top five betting favorites at +2000 odds.
All golfers will be on equal footing as they navigate Wissahickon this week. Accuracy is more important than power. Figuring out the fast-paced and undulating Bentgrass greens is the key to climbing the leaderboard at the 2025 Truist Championship.
Last week, my CJ CUP Byron Nelson Preview had success by backing Scheffler as the favorite at +280 odds. The World No. 1 came out with a 61 in Round 1, dominating TPC Craig Ranch in his home town of Dallas Fort-Worth, Texas.

PGA Power Rankings: Truist Championship
1. Rory McIlroy (+450) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
This course is a new test for Rory McIlroy, who has won this event four times when hosted at Quail Hollow. It should be a quick study for McIlroy, who has won three of six solo PGA Tour events, including his first win at The Masters to complete a career major Grand Slam.
McIlroy ranks second in total strokes gained, including 1st SG: Off-the-Tee, 19th SG: Approach and ninth SG: Putting. Wissahickon is a short course that demands more precision than power, so it'll be interesting to see how the bomber handles his clubs off-the-tee.
There's no way I'm fading McIlroy based on his current form. Confidence is through the roof and he's improved his irons and putting substantially in 2025. Bet up to a full unit on McIlroy as the favorite entering the 2025 Truist Championship.
2. Justin Thomas (+1800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
Justin Thomas, just like McIlroy, won during his last solo event outing. He ended a three-year win drought with a dramatic birdie from over 20 feet away on the first playoff hole to beat Andrew Novak at the 2025 RBC Heritage.
That came against a Signature Event field, so Thomas shouldn't feel too much pressure at Wissahickon this week. He's ranked fourth total strokes gained, including seventh SG: Approach and 20th SG: Putting. Thomas is first in putting average and ninth in scoring average.
I expect Thomas to find himself in contention once again, likely picking up his sixth top 10 finish of the PGA Tour season. Let's bet one more full unit on him to string together two consecutive Signature Event wins at 18-1 odds.
3. Shane Lowry (+3500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
Shane Lowry has everything going for his golf game except putting. The Irishman ranks 83rd in putting average and it could get in the way of his elite tee-to-green skillset on Wissahickon's Bentgrass greens.
I'm still going to recommend backing Lowry at 35-1 odds for a 0.25 unit wager. He's ranked sixth in total strokes gained metrics, including 11th SG: Approach and 12th in proximity. Lowry is also 11th in scrambling and top 50 for sand save percentage.
A runner-up finish behind McIlroy at Pebble Beach is the closest we've seen Lowry get to an outright win in 2025. Enters with T8-T42-T18 finishes in his last three solo outings. A short course that demands precision makes me want to invest a small bit of bankroll on Lowry at this price.
4. Maverick McNealy (+4500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
Maverick McNealy has a pair of T3 finishes across his last three PGA Tour events. Getting him at 45-1 is an absolute treat from sportsbooks.
The 29-year-old California native ranks 24th in total strokes gained, including 33rd SG: Approach and 22nd SG: Putting. He's carded five top 10 finishes in 12 events, rounding into peak form during April.
McNealy is finding greens in regulation at 68.9 percent, ranked 34th on the PGA Tour, while also sitting 33rd in birdie average. He offers a good blend of accuracy and power, with the ability to turn his putter into a weapon.
Let's bet another 0.25 unit wager on McNealy to win his second career PGA Tour event at +4500 odds.
5. Andrew Novak (+6000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
Another golfer playing in peak form right now has to be Andrew Novak. He nearly beat Justin Thomas during a one-hole playoff at the RBC Heritage, then proceeded to record his first PGA Tour win with Ben Griffin at the 2025 Zurich Classic.
Novak has four top 10 finishes in 2025. He's gone T3-P2-1 entering the Truist Championship, bouncing back from a MC-T23-MC-T42-MC stretch in March.
Ranked 23rd in total strokes gained is encouraging. Novak sits 14th in scrambling, sixth at sand save percentage, and first in putts per round. He's 29th in putting average and ninth in one-putt percentage.
Novak's short game is arguably the best part of his game right now. This will likely come in handy when navigating the undulated Bentgrass greens at Wissahickon, measuring up to 13 feet via Stimpmeter.
One final 0.25 unit wager is warranted on Andrew Novak at +6000 odds ahead of Round 1 at the 2025 Truist Championship. This would be his first solo PGA Tour win, so let's ride the hot hand and back Novak at this lucrative price.
