PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 Golfers For 2025 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto

With Scottie Scheffler out this week after a string of victories, Rory McIlroy takes over as the clear favorite at the RBC Canadian Open. Matt MacKay breaks down the top 5 golfers to excel at TPC Toronto this week, the final PGA Tour stop before the US Open.

PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 Golfers For 2025 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto

TPC Toronto's Osprey Valley (North Course) will make its PGA Tour debut during this week's 2025 RBC Canadian Open event. Robert MacIntyre will attempt to defend his 2024 title with the fifth-shortest betting odds at 28-1 in the outright winner market.

Rory McIlroy returns to the field this week as a big betting favorite to win his third RBC Canadian Open at +450 odds. He won this event in 2019 and 2022, which was back-to-back based on a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nick Taylor's epic 70-foot birdie putt to win a playoff against Tommy Fleetwood in 2023 is etched in the logo of the 2025 RBC Canadian Open. Taylor is currently 45-1 to win at TPC Toronto this week following a solo fourth-place finish at the Memorial Tournament on Sunday.

Other notables in the outright winner market include Ludvig Aberg (+1400), Corey Conners (+2000) and Shane Lowry at +2200. Taylor Pendrith (+2800), Sam Burns (+2800) and Robert MacIntyre are in the next bracket at +2800, while Sungjae Im and Luke Clanton round out the top RBC Canadian Open betting favorites at +3500 odds.

PGA Power Rankings: RBC Canadian Open

1. Rory McIlroy (+450) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best RBC Canadian Open odds

Rory McIlroy's last outing on the PGA Tour was a season-worst T47 finish at the PGA Championship. Despite collecting a handful of wins over the years at Quail Hollow Club, McIlroy finished +3 and only broke 70 once.

After two weeks off, expect a recharged McIlroy to be on full display at TPC Toronto. He's ranked second in total strokes gained, including first SG: Off-the-Tee. McIlroy has improved his putting in 2025, ranked sixth SG: Putting, leading to second in scoring average (69.13) and 14th in birdie average.

After Scottie Scheffler's dominant month of May, winning three of four events, getting McIlroy at +450 as the outright betting favorite feels like decent value. For comparison, Scheffler's pre-event prices went as short as +240 and +280.

Let's bet one unit on McIlroy to win his third RBC Canadian Open, despite playing Osprey Valley for the first time in his career.

2. Robert MacIntyre (+2800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best RBC Canadian Open odds

Robert MacIntyre is rounding into form and should carry momentum from his T6-T20 finishes at the Charles Schwab Challenge and Memorial Tournament. The Scotsman held off Ben Griffin at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open to win by one stroke for his breakthrough victory on the PGA Tour.

Osprey Valley rewards accuracy tee-to-green, which plays into MacIntyre's strengths. He's ranked 20th SG: Off-the-Tee and 25th SG: Approach. This includes 19th in GIR percentage (68.9%) and 45th in driving accuracy.

While the putter has been inconsistent, MacIntyre still sits 23rd on par 4s and top-50 in birdie average this season. Let's bet a quarter unit (0.25) on MacIntyre to log back-to-back wins at the RBC Canadian Open at +2800 odds.

3. Taylor Pendrith (+2800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best RBC Canadian Open odds

There are a lot of good Canadian golfers ready to compete in the 2025 RBC Canadian Open field. I'm interested in Taylor Pendrith at +2800 odds. He's sixth at finding greens in regulation (69.8%), 38th proximity and fifth in total driving.

Pendrith is coming off of a T5 finish at the PGA Championship and T12 finish at the Memorial Tournament. He's collected four top 10 finishes in 2025 and ranks fourth SG: Off-the-Tee and 31st SG: Approach.

Putting has been an issue in 2025, ranked 144th SG: Putting. However, Pendrith's reliable tee-to-green distance and accuracy is enticing enough to warrant another 0.25 unit wager on him to win his second career PGA Tour event at 28-1 this week.

4. Alex Smalley (+6600) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best RBC Canadian Open odds

Recent finishes have been less than ideal but Alex Smalley's driver is a great club to back at TPC Toronto's Osprey Valley North Course this week. Smalley ranks eighth in total strokes gained in 2025, including ninth SG: Tee-to-Green and 13th SG: Off-the-Tee.

Smalley's second in total driving, including 30th for driving accuracy. He's 40th SG: Putting and 14th scrambling, while sitting at 25th in sand save percentage. This has led to ranking sixth in scoring average (69.4), third on par 4s and 35th in birdie average entering June.

Smalley is 66-1 due to missing the cut in his last outing at Colonial Country Club. Since a strong February and early March campaign, Smalley has five missed cuts and three other finishes outside the top 25, with a T5 at the Myrtle Beach Classic on May 11th.

We're investing a small 0.10 unit wager on Smalley to lean on his tee-to-green accuracy to climb the leaderboard and contend for his first PGA Tour win at +6600 odds.

5. Matti Schmid (+8000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best RBC Canadian Open odds

Matti Schmid holed out for a clutch birdie on the 72nd hole at the Charles Schwab Challenge recently. He was one stroke short of forcing a playoff against winner, Ben Griffin.

Schmid is heating up ahead of Round 1 at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, recording three top 10 finishes since a T9 at the Corales Puntacana Championship on April 20th. He missed the cut at Muirfield Village, going +3 in both rounds.

Ranks 36th SG: Approach, 15th in driving distance and 38th at finding greens in regulation. 22nd in proximity, 10th on approach shots from 200+ yards and 50th in putting average are also encouraging metrics to back a golfer like Schmid this week.

10th in birdie average and 44th in scoring average means we should see plenty of red on the German's scorecard at Osprey Valley. Let's sprinkle one more 0.10 unit wager on Schmid to win his first PGA Tour event at +8000 odds, returning eight units of profit.
