PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 Golfers For 2025 PGA Championship

The 2025 PGA Championship is here, bringing 156 of the world's best golfers to Quail Hollow Club for the second major of the year. Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, Quail Hollow is a par 71 that runs over 7,600 yards.

Rory McIlroy has dominated this course throughout his career, winning four times at Quail Hollow. He's not alone, with Justin Thomas heating up and also winning the last PGA Championship held here in 2017.

Scottie Scheffler is fresh off of a dominant win at 31-under-par during the CJ CUP Byron Nelson. The World No. 1 won by eight strokes and never skipped a beat during his first victory in 2025. Scheffler and McIlroy are co-favorites in the outright winner betting market at +500 odds.

Other favorites ahead of Round 1 on Thursday include Bryson DeChambeau (+950), Jon Rahm (+2000), Xander Schauffele (+2200), Justin Thomas (+2200), Collin Morikawa (+2500) and Ludvig Åberg (+2800). Amongst these golfers, Thomas has two PGA Championship wins, while Morikawa won in 2020. Schauffele is defending his title after recording his maiden major victory at Valhalla last year.

PGA handicapper Matt MacKay is here with his top five golfers to bet on during the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club. Follow Matt's X account for more PGA betting analysis and free picks throughout the 2025 PGA Tour season.

PGA Power Rankings: PGA Championship

1. Rory McIlroy (+500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best PGA Championship odds

There's simply no reason to not toss a unit on Rory McIlroy to win his fifth PGA Tour event at this course. McIlroy has three outright wins in 2025, including his career-defining win at The Masters last month, completing a career Grand Slam at all four majors.

Now, McIlroy is playing without pressure. He's comfortable navigating Quail Hollow Club as a bomber off the tee. He's ranked first in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and sixth SG: Putting. McIlroy is set up to contend this week. Let's bet a unit on him to win a second straight major.

2. Bryson DeChambeau (+950) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best PGA Championship odds

After fizzling out in the final round at Augusta National, I expect Bryson DeChambeau to come out firing with his driving power in Round 1. The LIV golfer is one of the only others in this field who can match McIlroy's distance off the tee box.

Approach shots were the biggest issue for DeChambeau at the first major. He's a phenomenal scrambler, while the putter tends to fluctuate between hot and cold.

Coming off of an outright win with Crushers GC at LIV Korea. He's playing well right now and always shows up at majors, so let's bet another unit on DeChambeau at +950 odds.

3. Justin Thomas (+2200) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best PGA Championship odds

Justin Thomas is having a resurgent year on the PGA Tour after a tough couple years. He's won the PGA Championship twice, including at Quail Hollow Club in 2017.

Ranked third in total strokes gained, including fifth SG: Approach, 20th SG: Putting, and fifth in scoring average, Thomas has minimal flaws in his game right now. Enters with a playoff win at the RBC Heritage and a T2 at the Truist Championship on Sunday, both as Signature Events.

Let's bet half a unit (0.50) on Thomas at 22-1 odds to win his third PGA Championship and second at Quail Hollow Club.

4. Ludvig Åberg (+2800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best PGA Championship odds

Ludvig Åberg is an ascending talent on the PGA Tour who already has a win at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines this year. The 25-year-old Swede has three top 10 finishes in 2025, including a solo seventh-place finish at The Masters.

Ranked 10th SG: Off-the-Tee and 21st in proximity. Also sixth on approach shots from 200+ yards, which will come into play on plenty of holes at Quail Hollow.

Let's bet a half unit on Åberg to win his first major in Charlotte on Sunday.

5. Shane Lowry (+5500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best PGA Championship odds

I backed Shane Lowry to win the Truist Championship last week at 35-1 and he nearly pulled it off. The Irishman couldn't convert a six-foot par putt on the 16th hole, falling one stroke behind winner, Sepp Straka.

Despite coming up short in crunch time, I'll back Lowry again at 55-1 odds this week. He's among the best golfers on the PGA Tour when it comes to approach shots and hitting fairways.

The putter is an issue. However, he's no stranger to winning a major. Let's bet a quarter unit (0.25) on Lowry to win the 2025 PGA Championship at nearly double the price compared to last week.
