2025 Truist Championship Preview: Betting Picks, Odds, Course Preview and Prediction from Wissahickon Course
After cleaning up at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week, Scottie Scheffler is not in the field this week at the 2025 Truist Championship. That opens up space for stars like Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas to get back in the mix, and Matt MacKay is open to take a flier on them at value odds. Read on for his full 2025 Truist Championship Preview and betting picks.

6 min2025 Truist Championship Preview: Betting Picks, Odds, Course Preview and Prediction from Wissahickon Course
Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course is the site for the upcoming 2025 Truist Championship. This marks the latest Signature Event on the 2025 PGA Tour, one week prior to the second major at the PGA Championship. No cut line will be enforced against this highly-ranked field of 72 golfers.
Wissahickon Course makes its debut on the PGA Tour due to Quail Hollow, the typical host site, being prepared for the PGA Championship next week. Wissahickon is a par 70 that runs 7,119 yards, featuring over 100 bunkers as the primary hazard. We'll dive deeper into this course in a moment.
Without Scottie Scheffler competing in this field, oddsmakers are valuing Rory McIlroy as a short betting favorite at +450 odds. McIlroy deserves this line based on how well he's played in 2025, recording three outright wins in seven events, including his breakthrough win at The Masters to complete his career Grand Slam at majors.
Other notable favorites ahead of Round 1 at the Truist Championship include Collin Morikawa (+1400), Xander Schauffele (+1600), Justin Thomas (+1600), Ludvig Aberg (+1800) and Patrick Cantlay at +2000 odds. Thomas and Aberg each have a win under their belt this season, while Morikawa has recorded a pair of runner-up finishes.

THE PHILADELPHIA CRICKET CLUB - WISSAHICKON COURSE OVERVIEW
Wissahickon Course won't be a lengthy track that rewards distance off-the-tee. Instead, it's a links-style course, with minimal trees and a ton of bunkers flanking fairways and protecting the small, Bentgrass greens.
Bentgrass is the primary surface on the fairways, which are straight without much dogleg to navigate. Rough is a mixture of bluegrass and fescue that measures 2.5 inches, so it's not the most hazardous lie with errant tee and approach shots.
Water hazards aren't prominent here. However, sand bunkers will be a frequent obstacle for golfers who struggle with accuracy tee-to-green. Once onto the greens, they will be difficult to conquer due to undulations and up to 13 feet via Stimpmeter.
Golfers who can figure out the fast-paced, tiered Bentgrass greens, while dialing in their approach shots, will have the most success climbing the leaderboard at Wissahickon Course this week.
2025 Truist Championship Outright Picks
Justin Thomas (+1600) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
Justin Thomas finally ended his winning drought with a long-distance birdie putt to beat Andrew Novak in a playoff at the 2025 RBC Heritage. That was the last event we've seen Thomas play, which also happened to be Signature Event.
Ranked fourth in total strokes gained, including seventh SG: Approach and 20th SG: Putting, Thomas has the exact profile to dominate at Wissahickon Course this week. He's playing with plenty of confidence and has five top 10 finishes in 10 events.
Make sure to bet at least half a unit (0.50), up to a full unit (1.00) on Thomas to record his second consecutive win at 16-1 odds.
Jordan Spieth (+2800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
I'll be honest, backing Jordan Spieth does feel a bit scary. The Texas native played well during the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, carding a solo fourth-place finish at -19-under-par. He's not going to have to use his driver a lot at Wissahickon, which plays into Spieth's strength with irons off-the-tee.
Spieth is ranked 38th SG: Off-the-Tee, 48th SG: Approach and 32nd in putting average. His short game is solid, ranked 50th scrambling, 33rd sand save percentage and 31st in one-putt percentage. This has led to a 41st-ranked scoring average (70.00) and sitting 20th on par 4s.
Rounding into form at an ideal time, Spieth has four consecutive top 20 finishes entering Round 1. Let's bet a quarter unit on Spieth to end a three-year win drought at +2800 odds.
Russell Henley (+3000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
When it comes to tee-to-green tacticians, look no further than Russell Henley. The Georgia native has great touch with his putter as well, which makes me like him even more at Wissahickon Course this week.
Ranked 15th SG: Approach, 14th SG: Putting and third at finding greens in regulation, Henley has minimal flaws. He's won outright at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, jumping Collin Morikawa late with a timely eagle chip-in.
Henley's lone missed cut at The Masters led to a T8 finish at the RBC Heritage during his last event played. He's had a couple of weeks to prepare for the Truist Championship, where I believe we'll see him continue to hunt flagsticks and roll in birdie putts with frequency.
A quarter unit on Henley to win his second PGA Tour event of the season at 30-1 odds is warranted.
Shane Lowry (+3500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
Shane Lowry should be a quick study at Wissahickon Course due to its similar layout to links courses overseas in the United Kingdom. The Irishman ranks sixth in total strokes gained metrics, like 11th SG: Approach and 12th in proximity.
Putting is the primary issue for Lowry. However, at a course where the Bentgrass greens will be a challenge for most in the field, I like Lowry's odds at this 35-1 price. He's still 32nd in putts per round and top-40 in one-putt percentage, so his 83rd-ranked putting average is a bit deceiving.
Lowry is 11th in scrambling and is accurate off-the-tee. He's logged seven top 25 finishes, a runner-up at Pebble Beach behind McIlroy, and three top 10 finishes in 2025. At +3500 odds, let's bet another quarter unit (0.25) on Lowry to win a solo event for the first time since the 2019 Open Championship.
Andrew Novak (+5500) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Truist Championship odds
One of the hottest golfers on the PGA Tour entering the Truist Championship has to be Andrew Novak. He came up just short against Justin Thomas during the last Signature Event at the RBC Heritage, losing in a one-hole playoff.
Novak won with Ben Griffin to record his first PGA Tour win, albeit in team format, at the 2025 Zurich Classic. He also logged a T3 finish playing at the Valero Texas Open in early April.
Novak ranks 23rd in total strokes gained. He's 14th scrambling, sixth at sand save percentage, 29th in putting average and first on the PGA Tour in putts per round. Novak's elite short game should help him out if he continues to struggle on approach.
Odds have shortened from 70-1 down to 55-1, so let's sprinkle a 0.10 unit wager on Novak to punch his first solo outright win on the PGA Tour at the Truist Championship to get 5.5 units of profit in return.
2025 Truist Championship Picks
- Justin Thomas (+1600)
- Jordan Spieth (+2800)
- Russell Henley (+3000)
- Shane Lowry (+3500)
- Andrew Novak (+5500)
