2024 Stanley Cup Champion Odds: Rangers the Most-Backed Team to Win the Stanley Cup

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are drawing closer to the end of the Semifinals but there is still a lot of action left to unfold.

Sports bettors are overwhelmingly investing in the New York Rangers' Stanley Cup odds, which are currently available as long as +525 at Bet365. The current favorites, according to oddsmakers, are the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars at +300, followed by the Edmonton Oilers and Rangers tied at +525 odds.

NHL handicapper Matt MacKay is back to share his latest betting insights to explain which teams hold value in the NHL futures market. This includes a breakdown of the top-three teams earning the biggest percentage of the betting handle to win the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals.

Florida Panthers+300
Dallas Stars+300
Edmonton Oilers+525
New York Rangers+525
Carolina Hurricanes+1000
Colorado Avalanche+1400
Vancouver Canucks+2000
Boston Bruins+3000

Even though there are still three Game 6 matchups and a 2-2 series between Edmonton and Vancouver that have yet to be played, we're seeing some great value on teams contending for a Stanley Cup title.

Florida and Dallas both had chances to close out their 2nd Round series in five games at home but neither team could execute in the third period to advance. Instead, Boston and Colorado won their elimination game on the road, and now, return to home ice with hopes to force a Game 7.

The New York Rangers suffered back-to-back losses against Carolina after being up 3-0. Prior to this slump, New York was undefeated in the playoffs, but now they return to PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, for their third attempt to close the series and eliminate the Hurricanes from contention.

Virtually no respect is being given to Vancouver, who nearly forced overtime in Game 4, but wound up surrendering a goal in the final minute of regulation to lose 3-2 on the road against Edmonton. The Canucks are as long as 20-1 in the Stanley Cup futures market as they prepare to host the Oilers for a pivotal Game 5 on Thursday night.

RANGERS (29.21%)

29 percent of all bets placed in the 2024 Stanley Cup futures market are going toward the New York Rangers. Bettors aren't shying away from the fact that New York has lost two consecutive games, including a 4-1 rout at home in Game 5, which was the result of a third period meltdown.

Igor Shesterkin had been on fire until Game 5, when he surrendered three goals against 27 shot attempts. If the Rangers' netminder cannot channel the best version of himself in Game 6, we're looking at a Game 7 back at Madison Square Garden. All of the pressure is firmly on the Rangers, who have lost the momentum gained during their 3-0 lead earlier in this Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup.

PANTHERS (20.22%)

Sam Reinhart was the lone goal scorer for Florida during their 2-1 loss at home to Boston in Game 5. The Bruins have caused fits for the Panthers all season, sweeping them in the regular season, while winning both games on the road at Amerant Bank Arena in this series.

Florida will now have to go back to TD Garden for a second elimination game, this time in hostile territory. The Panthers were 0-2 in Boston during the regular season, but are 2-0 in this series on the road, winning lopsided games with the final scores 6-1 and 6-2.

The Panthers have experience and a great goaltender in Sergei Bobrovsky, who led them all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2023, only to lose the series 4-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights.

CANUCKS (19.1%)

Sports bettors are also hammering the Vancouver Canucks, earning over 19 percent of the betting handle in the 2024 Stanley Cup outright winner betting market. 20-1 is extremely lucrative and implies oddsmakers are bearish on the Canucks' chances of advancing to the Western Conference Finals.

Vancouver is a smaller market team that has looked much better than Edmonton for most of this series. In fact, the Canucks swept the Oilers 4-0 during the regular season. Calvin Pickard played much better in the net during his first career playoff start in relief duty for Stuart Skinner, who struggled mightily in the first three games of this Western Conference Semifinals.

Vancouver's offense regressed in Game 4, scoring both of their goals in the final 13 minutes of regulation after falling into a 2-0 deficit. If Vancouver can generate more shots on goal and pucks on net, they stand a good chance to beat Connor McDavid and the Oilers, especially holding the edge in terms of home ice for Game 5 and potentially Game 7.
