The 2025 NFL schedule will be released today and football fans everywhere are waiting to see when and where their favorite team will play.

Of course, the opponents of each team are already known, but when and where the games are played does matter. Cross-country trips, primetime games, international games, and potential bad weather locations add intrigue to any schedule and factor into NFL odds.

These scheduling quirks can make an impact on how a team's season plays out. Better teams still end up doing well regardless of how the schedule order shakes out, but the schedule still affects teams on the margins, and one win is often the difference in a division championship or a wild card berth.

One win can also be the difference in a team hitting its win total or not. Sportsbooks have already produced win totals for all 32 NFL teams, and the schedule release gives fans and bettors a closer look at how each game may play out.

Here's a quick guide on win totals

What are NFL Win Totals?

NFL win totals are the number of games oddsmakers think represents the average amount of wins for a team. The projected best teams in the league, like the Eagles and Chiefs, enter the season with high win totals, while lower-tier teams have smaller win totals.

Win totals are almost always listed with half a win at the end to easily determine whether the over or under was correct. If a team with a 9.5 preseason win total finishes the season with 10 wins, then the over hits. If that team only wins nine games, then the under on their win total is successful.

Each win total has odds attached to it that show if the sportsbook thinks one side is more likely. A win total with plus odds indicates that it is less likely, and minus odds indicate that the oddsmakers think the outcome is more likely.

Furthermore, win totals are just for the regular season. Any potential playoff wins do not factor into win total wagers.

How to bet on NFL Win Totals

You can find win totals markets in the NFL section in any major U.S. sportsbook.

Find the teams for your win totals bets, and decide whether you think a team will do better or worse than its listed win total.

If you think a team performs better than its win total, bet on the over. If you think they do worse, then take the under.

Let's use the Dallas Cowboys as an example. Most sportsbook give Dallas a win total of 7.5 games, so if you think the Cowboys will be in playoff contention and win at least eight games, you would take the over.

But if you're less confident in Dallas and suspect it to be among the worst teams in the league, then the under is the bet for you. The Cowboys going Under 7.5 wins also has plus odds (+115), so there is potentially value in fading Dallas.
