MLS Cup Odds: LAFC Is the Preseason Favorite To Win the MLS Cup for Third Straight Year

For the third straight season, LAFC is favored to take home the MLS Cup. After winning the MLS Cup for the first time last season, they will begin their journey to be MLS’ first back-to-back champions since the LA Galaxy won it in 2011 and 2012 as the favorites.

ClubOddsImplied chance
Philadelphia Union+70012.5%
Austin FC+12007.7%
CF Montreal+13007.1%

LAFC is given +500 odds, or an implied 16.7% chance to win their second straight title. They have some serious expected competition from the East, as the Philadelphia Union and New York City FC are given +700 and +900 odds respectively. That’s a 12.5% chance for the Union to win their first title in their history and a 10% chance that NYCFC wins their second title in three years.

LAFC’s biggest challenge in the West is expected to be Austin FC. The Oaks are given +1200 odds, or an implied 7.7% chance to win. Meaning, LAFC is the only team in the West given even a 10% chance to win the MSL Cup this season.

LAFC is bringing in a number of star players expected to help them take home a second straight title. From Gareth Bale to Giorgio Chiellini and Aaron Long. They did also lose top goal scorer Cristian Arango in the transfer window. Did they strike the right balance in the window or have they gone too far chasing older European players? The sportsbooks think they have the most talent in MLS, but only time will tell.
