Books and Bettors at Odds Over Fowler and Johnson
Bets on Dustin Johnson to win the US PGA next week account for less than 3% of the total market share, despite the bookies rating his chances at 10%.
Johnson is priced as short as +800 by some oddsmakers, making him joint-favorite alongside compatriot Tiger Woods – but Tiger has been backed by just shy of 10% of bettors.
Rickie Fowler, by contrast, is as long as +2300 – but has received well over double the number of bets as DJ, with a little under 5% of the total.
Xander Schauffele is another over-performer in the market – he’s been deemed the 11th most likely to prevail at the US PGA, but is backed sixth-best by punters.
Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “DJ’s won the US Open and finished second at both The Masters and The Open, but the PGA hasn’t been as happy a stage for him down the years.
“His best finish here was fifth, way back in 2010, which may go some way to explain why he isn’t much fancied by the bettors – but write him off at your peril.”
