With the current Irish President, Michael D. Higgins, wrapping up his term in November after 14 years, the opportunity is wide open for many newcomers. Currently, Mairead McGuinesss is leading the charge, who has served as European Commissioner for Financial Stability.

Way further down on the odds board, we find the one and only Conor McGregor throwing his name in the hat. We see him with longshot odds, but as we learned with Donald Trump, no one is really out of the race, regardless of political background.

Let's take a look at the complete Irish Election odds, and see if Conor McGregor has any real chance of becoming the President of Ireland in 2025.

Latest Irish Election Odds From Kalshi

Mairead McGuinness (+115)

Mairead McGuinness has a sizeable lead over the field, coming in . Some sportsbooks have her at 6/5 odds or +120, while Kalshi has her trading at 47%, translating to +115. Compared to the next closest on Kalshi at 5%, this is a strong gap for an election three months out.

She has risen as high as 54% in recent weeks, and now sitting just below the even odds mark. It would take a major shift in the next three months to blow the current lead, with so many smaller candidates splitting the rest of the vote.

McGuinness has an extensive background in politics compared to McGregor, who has essentially none. Before her four year term as commissioner, she was the first Vice-President of the European Parliament from 2017 to 2020. McGuinness will likely win over a lot of the electorate with her strong connections and belief of a promising network with the rest of Europe.

Conor McGregor (+2400)

McGregor is just a bit further down here at +2400, with more than a handful of candidates in the middle. Does he stand a chance in the race with many established competitors? McGregor would need to pull a Trump-esque campaign, causing uproar with outrageous comments and claims.

He's already done some of that, speaking on his anti-immigration policy several times since declaring in March. But he's only got a few months to make up the ground and get in the mix, as the election is set to take place in November 2025.

Based on the current odds on Kalshi, McGregor is only given a 5% chance to pull off the impossible. He's been in and out of court for misconduct allegations over the past few years, and it remains to be seen how serious and focused he is on his candidacy.
