St. Louis Cardinals vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction
Both Toronto and St. Louis were playoff teams a season ago, but they were both eliminated in the first round. Toronto shuffled up their team in the off-season, adding gold glove outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and Daulton Varsho, who is a versatile young player that I am very high on. They traded slugger Teoscar Hernandez and went with a more defensive approach.
The issue for the Jays has been pitching and defense, and they are hopeful that their off-season moves will pay off in those departments this year. From an offensive perspective, there are few teams in the majors with a better line. Toronto is led by young superstars Vlad Gurrero Jr and Bo Bichette while still having some heavy-hitting veterans in George Springer and Matt Chapman. The Jays will send Alek Manoah to the bump today, who is coming off one of the best years of his career.
Opposing Manoah will be the Lizard King Mike Mikolas. Mikolas, when right, is one of the best rams in baseball and will be the ace of this Cardinals rotation this year. St. Louis got better in the off-season as they added all-star catcher Wilson Contreas to replace legendary catcher Yadier Molina.
This is a team that represents two of the best hitters in baseball, Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado. Goldschmidt beat out his teammate Arenado for MVP last season, and the two are hopeful that they can turn in similar campaigns. The Cards enter this season as the favorite in the NL Central.
I will back the road team today and take the Jays on the short moneyline. This feels like a good spot to start the season for Toronto. I love the way that Alek Manoah has been throwing the baseball, and I trust him to limit this Cardinals offense today.
On the flip side of things, I love everything about this Blue Jays team. I love what they did in the off-season, and I feel that this could be the most balanced roster in the MLB. I trust their lineup to put up runs today and lead us to a win.
